The police, up to late last night, remained tight lipped on the identity of a woman found dead on a beach at Windward Bay, near Pigeon Point, on Tuesday.
Neither her name nor nationality were released to the media.
Corporal Frankie Thomas of the police’s Strategic Communications Division told Caribarena details will be made public sometime Wednesday morning, giving them enough time to properly inform the next of kin.
The woman, said to be a white female in her late twenties, was found in the late afternoon with a single stab wound to the neck.
No arrests have been made and the police are appealing to members of the public for information that would assist them in their investigations.
“The police are unable to say at this moment what are the motives behind this murder, however, a full investigation will be launched into the matter to include an autopsy. The police are urging anyone with information regarding this murder to please come forward or get in touch with the Dockyard Police Station at telephone number 460-1002, or call the Criminal Investigation Department at 462-3913/14 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477),” a statement released by Stratcom on Tuesday night said.
Corporal Thomas said he has no doubt that members of the public will fully cooperate.
They are already treating the incident as a murder, which would be the first for the year.
A large crowd gathered as close as they could get to the scene as the news spread through the English Harbour community, which is dealing with yet another January murder.
It was last January that boat captain Andrew Gollan was shot and killed while he and his girlfriend were on their way home from dinner.
If it turns out that this latest murder victim is yet another tourist, the hotels association and officials will once again be rushed to effect damage control to minimize the fall out at a time when the industry could do without further stress.

i agree that the whole of antigua can't take responsibility for the actions of some low-life, deplorable heathens any more than people in the states should be held responsible for those who murder unsuspecting victims . the difference here is that Antigua depends on tourism. DEPENDS on it. something has to be done.. because ultimately, we ARE responsible to what happens to one another, whether we believe it or not.
senseless murder of a a beautiful girl who had a whole lot of life ahead of her.
so what are we all going to do about it?

I would just like to say to those people who feel the need to decide Antigua is a dangerous place because of the murders that have happened in the last 2 years, please remember how many murders take place in your home country. Just because Antigua is supposed to be paradise does not mean that human beings don't live there and still nasty, sick individuals murder people. If it happened in the States or England there would never be so much publicity and aggression towards it, it would be tossed aside as 'another murder'. People are naeve if they believe that there is such a thing as paradise, with no murderers, peadophiles and sick people... they are everywhere it is the human race. Just remember that there are hundreds more deaths in your home country than in Antigua, and despite the population difference there's no excuse for people who ignore this.
