Police Investigate Murder

The police, up to late last night, remained tight lipped on the identity of a woman found dead on a beach at Windward Bay, near Pigeon Point, on Tuesday.

Neither her name nor nationality were released to the media.

Corporal Frankie Thomas of the police’s Strategic Communications Division told Caribarena details will be made public sometime Wednesday morning, giving them enough time to properly inform the next of kin.

The woman, said to be a white female in her late twenties, was found in the late afternoon with a single stab wound to the neck.

No arrests have been made and the police are appealing to members of the public for information that would assist them in their investigations.

“The police are unable to say at this moment what are the motives behind this murder, however, a full investigation will be launched into the matter to include an autopsy. The police are urging anyone with information regarding this murder to please come forward or get in touch with the Dockyard Police Station at telephone number 460-1002, or call the Criminal Investigation Department at 462-3913/14 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477),” a statement released by Stratcom on Tuesday night said.

Corporal Thomas said he has no doubt that members of the public will fully cooperate.

They are already treating the incident as a murder, which would be the first for the year.

A large crowd gathered as close as they could get to the scene as the news spread through the English Harbour community, which is dealing with yet another January murder.

It was last January that boat captain Andrew Gollan was shot and killed while he and his girlfriend were on their way home from dinner.

If it turns out that this latest murder victim is yet another tourist, the hotels association and officials will once again be rushed to effect damage control to minimize the fall out at a time when the industry could do without further stress.

We are leaving for a cruise on Friday and Antigua is a port of call. I could not disagree more with Anon who posted about our home countries having crimes as well. This is a small island that depends on tourism and people go on vacation to feel relaxed and enjoy time with friends and family. They shouldn't feel threatened or unsafe while vacationing. We were really looking forward to seeing this island but unfortunately, we will not be getting off of the ship. These people should appreciate tourists coming to their island and spending their hard earned money, but instead look at them as opportunities to rip people off and take advantage of them. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family.

this was my friends little sister. my friend had just gotten married days before. i can't begin to express the degree of sadness that everyone is feeling on the family's behalf... this is unfathomable...

i agree that the whole of antigua can't take responsibility for the actions of some low-life, deplorable heathens any more than people in the states should be held responsible for those who murder unsuspecting victims . the difference here is that Antigua depends on tourism. DEPENDS on it. something has to be done.. because ultimately, we ARE responsible to what happens to one another, whether we believe it or not.

senseless murder of a a beautiful girl who had a whole lot of life ahead of her.

so what are we all going to do about it?

I knew the family. I can not believe it. I really hope they find whoever did this! Nobody should have the right to take away somebody's life. Sick people, murderers, .should be in JAIL! You go away to celebrate your daughter's wedding and you go back home with this tragedy! God help us to find the killer!

This is hugely sad and there are no words to express how sorry I am for the family of this girl, there is nothing that can be said to ever change the way that they will feel.
I would just like to say to those people who feel the need to decide Antigua is a dangerous place because of the murders that have happened in the last 2 years, please remember how many murders take place in your home country. Just because Antigua is supposed to be paradise does not mean that human beings don't live there and still nasty, sick individuals murder people. If it happened in the States or England there would never be so much publicity and aggression towards it, it would be tossed aside as 'another murder'. People are naeve if they believe that there is such a thing as paradise, with no murderers, peadophiles and sick people... they are everywhere it is the human race. Just remember that there are hundreds more deaths in your home country than in Antigua, and despite the population difference there's no excuse for people who ignore this.

There was a wedding celebration. She was the brides little sister. They were on a honeymoon cruise of the islands and had put in at Antigua. There isn't enough caution given to tourists over here. This place is an impoverished and desperate area that is full of drug dealers, and drug addicts. There aren't enough police in all the islands put together to monitor the criminal activity here. That's why there are specific areas for the tourists to be. The resort industry obviously downplay the danger, or people wouldn't visit the islands. I think the cruise ships and resort industry should cross that island and many others off the list of places to visit. Maybe the residents would take a harder look at their problem and the police would be more strict on enforcing the law and persecuting criminals if their primary source of income were cut off.

I hope nothing or no one is ruled out. The initial suspect should be the woman's husband.

It doesn´t matter where she was from, what count is that somebody was killed. Nobody should have the right to do that. My thoughts are with her family.

Love the article it would seem that the Tourist Industry officials are reeling and saying to themselves, "It would have been better if it were an Antiguan that would have died whether black or white".

who ever did this should know that god's not sleeping and that person will be found, and i definitely hope that when this person is found that who ever in charge of sentencing to death, will give them a slow and painful death. i also certainly hope this is not drug related. they go down to mad mongoose and i watch them get drunk and look for drugs to get even more messes up. some of them dont even have the money to pay which leads to them getting killed. the police know all the drug dealers so i dont know why they dont keep a close eye on them. further more they need to put up cameras at the beaches also.smilies/cry.gif
