Murder Arrest

The police have made an arrest in connection with last week's murder of an American tourist. According to sources, the accused fits the widely publicised description of the suspect.

Nina Nilssen was stabbed to death on Windward Bay on January 19, near the popular Pigeon Point beach.

The media has been invited to a press conference on Sunday afternoon, when details of the investigation are expected to be released.

Despite the relatively quick arrest, Antigua was not able to avoid damaging fall out.

The ship on which Nilssen was a passenger has already dropped the island from its itenerary for the rest of the winter season.

I am happy that the murderer was found, so don't get me wrong. But, I am just amazed at the efficiency of the Police when it comes to Tourists in finding the culprits, as opposed to locals. Or are we more concerned when a Tourist lose their life, so information flows freely. Hmmm, something to think about.

Murders and deaths are VERY sad and very BAD,but when you see and hear the comments some people make aobut antigua, it disgusts me, when the country they come from have so many murders and some of the murders are so hedious, Im of the feeling that we will self sustain ourselfs and all the guests can go about their business, and leave us alone. But yet they are here still, running from their countries, nd living large in Antigua. Leave us alone, let us be the backward country. Go back to your first world NO CRIME country.

I find it interesting that the prior reader wrote 4 murders in 2 years. I guess the murder of Antiguans do not count. My prayer is that one day soon the police will use the same diligence when working on cases where locals were murdered. One day soon , i pray, the lives of Antiguans and oither CARICOM residents will also be deemed valuable

No matter how fast an arrest is made, the victim is still dead. If Antigua wants to regain it's reputation as a "safe" place, there have to be no further re-occurrences for a few years. Four murders in two years on a tiny island are far too many, especially if that tiny island promotes itself as a "safe" place.

If indeed the arrested person is the guilty party, congratulations to the Antiguan police force.
