Antigua St John's - The government has filled the position left vacant by last month's departure of deputy police commissioner Neil Parker.
Veteran police officer Ivor David has been appointed, with immediate effect. David, with over 36 years in the force, previously headed the St John’s Police Station (District A). He also had postings at Dockyard and in the human resources department.
The new acting deputy said he was called before the Police Service Commission on Monday, and by Tuesday, the appointment was official.
“I am very happy for the opportunity, and I pledge to continue to build on the foundation that has been laid by those who preceded me," David said. "I also pledge to give my full support to the commissioner of police, Vere Browne."

Frog Jumping
Strange that they had overlooked two currently serving officers, far more experienced and knowledgeable-- - Davidson Whyte and Albert Smith who were promoted to Deputy Commissioner in 2005 when they had forced out some senior and junior officers on leave.
Both are now Assistant Commissioners.
Now like a frog they have jumped with Superintendent David to Deputy over their heads.
Should this be considered as a reward for his action in prosecuting the marchers. This was one of the things that former Canadian and Antiguan Commissioner Gary Nelson had complained about.
