Man Shot in St John's. photo-mafiatoday.comAntigua St John's - A 20-year-old man was shot on Thursday near the Piggotts and British American Malls on Redcliffe Street, in the heart of St John’s. The police have confirmed the incident happened at around 5 pm.

Spokesman Snr Sgt William Holder said the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are in talks with the victim.

He was not able to confirm exactly where the gunshot would was sustained, but reports have indicated the young man was shot in the face.

Holder said too that the victim’s wounds did not appear to be life threatening when he was interviewed by police officers at the Mount St. John’s Medical Center late Thursday afternoon.

The shooting incident had caused commotion in the city with the sound of the gunshot sending pedestrians scampering for cover.

Police ranks were observed on the scene canvasing for evidence when Caribarena.com arrived.

So far Holder said there has been no arrest but vigorous investigations are underway.

Police need to do their job and 'police' town. They need to stop all those big limes on Redcliffe Street and Market Street. Every single Friday afternoon I pass there, it is full of uniformed workers (mostly APUA) drinking beer! This is not right. You cannot have people drinking beer on a corner of town in full work uniform (especially a Government entity). I have never understood how this can be legal and how come the police don't move these guys along. It's terrible. I think the police do as little as possible and if there is any crime committed with guns they probably run the other way, they're very afraid.

the government should start thinking about the top b** because it seem as if he does not command the respect of the members of the police force.all that is going on in the police force is members just taking the commissioner of police to court with all the bad dicision he is making and he has been loosing all. what is going on mr pm please get mr parker in place to run the force or crime will flood this little island of ours.the commissioner have no mandate in commanding the force.all respect gone, what next

...rum shop...

#11 Jumbee Picknee » 2011-12-02 20:39

Does the police headquarters still have a commissary which serves as a bar and lounge?
In days gone by, this is where you could find most officers who should be on duty, and, if they are off duty, you can scout many a rum shop on the island and you will difinitely find a po-po or two chilling there too.
The more things change, the more they remain the same.
By the way, what happened to walking the beat?

It's not that the police equipment is not working; it's simply that the POLICE are not working. They coop up in the station killing time, flirting with skirts.

Desperate time, desperate people. It is a shame when the police do not see the need to react with desperate actions!!

Hard to believe that this happened in the middle of town in daylight hours and the shooter was able to get away. Come on, the city/town is not that big, you can practically cover the area in a few minutes. Don't they train for these types of scenarios; active shooter, brawls, etc? If not, then they need to start so that they would be better prepared.

Scary

I can't count the number of times I limed in that area as a school boy. If you can't feel safe in town in broad daylight, but 5 minutes from a police station, where can you feel safe?

carvaa you ask a question I and others have been asking for a very long time now. Seems to me that this is another indicator that the police communication equipment is not working, if they are out patrolling. Criminals need to be deterred by the knowledge that the police would respond promptly to such events.

#2 carvaa » 2011-12-02 06:12

5:pm still bright daylight and the heart of St.John's became Dodge city with gun shot blowing up the place and guess what the want to be assasin got away clean.
Am a bit confuse, when a call go out to the police do these Officers then jump in there vehicles and head to the crime scene like the Fire Officers do when there is a fire? or there is a radio call that goes out to all patrols in that area and around?
I give up.
