Still No Word On Govt House Investigation

Govt House InvestigationThe police are still investigating the reported robbery at Government House two months ago. Police spokesman William Holder said the investigating officers are yet to update him on their progress.

No arrests have yet been made, as far as he is aware, and he could not speak to the identity of the prime suspect or whether or not it is the police officer rumoured to be initially suspected.

“I don’t know what the investigators are looking at,” Holder said, adding, “I don’t think anyone has been arrested.”

The December security breach at Government House reportedly saw $10,000 stolen from a safe.

Initial unconfirmed reports have pointed to one of the police’s own, casting negative light on the law enforcement body.

Police Commissioner Vere Browne, who has been consistently tight-lipped on the matter, had indicated that information on the matter would not be issued until investigations were completed, and an official statement, personally sanctioned by him, is approved.

There was no time frame given.

The police are meanwhile revising their crime fighting and prevention strategies, especially in the wake of the third murder for 2011.

Holder, asked to comment, said this has been underway for quite some time.

“We will intensify efforts in 2011. We will get ahead of the game,” Holder said, adding that the focus is more on prevention than investigation.

“It's an ongoing process… We may make some amendments… We are aware that the matter (latest murder) has caused concern and we are working on it,” he added.

He did not however reveal what amendments are likely to be made, in an effort to stay ahead of the criminal elements.

Holder said it is the norm for the police department to revise its operational approach to crime and security, but recent events have caused them to step up the pace.

Criminal activities in Antigua saw a noticeable reduction in 2010, compared to 2009.

THE $10.000 DOLLARS TAKEN FROM THE G.G'S SAFE . TAKEN YES ,BUT WAS IT REALLY STOLEN? OR COULD IT BE ITS PAYMENT FOR A SUCCESFULL WATERGATE LIKE BREAKIN, GIVING THE G.G THE EXCUSE NEEDED TO EXPLAIN THE NO STAMPED, UNSIGNED TRIBUNAL REPORT. I AM NOT ACCUSING THE G.G OF ORCHESTRATINGTH IS MOVE, BUT SHE CERTAINLY BENEFITED FROM IT. WHO COULD GARANTY NO ONE WILL BE CAUGHT? WHO IS REALLY INCHARGE OF HER MAGESTY'S SECURITY.TIME FOR AN INDEPEND'ENT INVESTIGATION.

Taking too long

Why is the investigation taken so long to complete? By the way, how does this suspect or suspects managed to unlock a a well secure safe and stole $10,000, under the GG's nose? I guess this must be the workings of a Ninja (don't tell they are now finding their way in Wadadli). Who does this money belongs to (the GG or the people)? And, I even heard that the seal of the tribunal report was broken and left in the safe? I find this breach of security at Government House very suspicious! The timing of this incident makes you even wonder: was it a cover up to tamper with the tribunal findings or just coincidence? The powers to be need to speed up this investigation!

The best way to hide incompetence is to plead ignorance. It is the oldest PR trick in the book.

I hope the commissioner don't get caught up with the politicks. This would make him ineffective. We hope he will be for the people and not any party. i do believe that police pick and choose who they lock up.

Skyewill, I thought the same thing, you really must wonder what** of having a PR person. Where the new commissioner is concerned I am really starting to question his ability to do the job. A reason for this is I really don't think the commissioner gets that a big part of him being successful will be his ability to communicate effectively to the public that the police have respect for us.

I do Understand the Police must protect the information but there got to be a better way to communicate so the public can have more confidence in the Police.
