Police Investigate Hodges Bay Murder

Police Investigate Hodges Bay MurderThe police are investigating the year’s first murder – that of a 49 year-old British national whose body was found in his Hodges Bay apartment early Tuesday morning.

Police sources said L. Benjamin was found lying in a pool of blood just after eight o’clock.

A neighbour had been passing the apartment and noticed the door was ajar.

An initial examination of the body revealed that Benjamin had been shot.

The police are interviewing neighbours to find out whether anyone heard gunshots during the night. They suspect Benjamin died sometime after midnight on Monday.

According to the police, the victim arrived in Antigua in September 2010, and his landlord said he was due to leave on Saturday. However, she also reportedly said Benjamin had delayed his departure several times.

Neighbours described the victim as "very quiet," and said he usually spent a lot of time inside on his computer.

The police sources also said there were indications of a struggle, as two broken bottles were found on the floor.

The police plan to contact Benjamin's family in England to obtain further information.

No date has yet been set for the post mortem that will determine the exact cause and the precise time of death.

Just one question. My family is planning a family trip to Antigua due to that's where my great-grandfath er is from. The elder people in my family thought it would be a nice trip so the younger children will know about their history. Is Antigua not a safe place to vist? I ask that question because of the statement of attacks on vistors/tourist s of 2008-2010.

Tenman,

I don’t know anything about “Shaw”, but I didn’t care to dignify his/her idiotic irrelevant comments with a response.

PLM, whats your issue now? I see your reference to St. Lucia where is that coming from? Look at that post from A Shaw which you leave alone but instead prefer to attack a neighboring island. PLM A Shaw is one of the loud voices from the Stanford Victim Coalition that have no good wishes for this country

No more tourist dollars until a few things are implemented

#5 my way of helping » 2011-01-05 01:09

My condolences to his family. This gun issue need to be handled, please let us ask America, China, England, some country for a round the clock coast guard protection. The barrels, make sure they are properly checked. Carrying a unregistered gun should be penalized with 5 year minimum (mandatory). My Police Plan should be made effective yesterday. More officers out on the field, I promise, more revenue will be collected, from drug smugglers who almost always have cash with the drugs which will be confiscated and then fined, another revenue.

Frank ly, Until, Antiguans and Barbudans, implement the right laws, policing techniques, ask for the right help (coast guard help), put the right people in office who are experts in the specific fields, I ask the tourist to stay away from the country. My people need the tourist Dollars, and I love my people but the tourist life is much more important than some stupid dollar which is not even being spent properly to safeguard the people and tourist of the United Islands. Inexperience, illogical thinking, nepotism, etcetera is going to kill us (literally and metaphorically) . My plan is here.

Definitely not the news headline you want to start the year, but the known circumstances to date surrounding this murder are interesting.

Another Major Blow

#1 DC » 2011-01-04 21:38

While we are still recovering from the attacks on visitors/touris ts of 2008, 2009 and 2010, this. It will be another major blow once the British media gets a hold of it. Goodbye tourism recovery. (It won't matter that there has been a precipitous decline in the number of murders over the past year (from 16 to 6) or that the victim has been in Antigua since September.) Amazing.
