A Cook's Hill family of three was left homeless after a fire tore through their Cook's Hill house over the weekend. Fire officers responded to a call at about 9:48 pm and found a two-bedroom wooden structure (20x23') engulfed in flames.
It is alleged that about 9:35 pm, 31-year-old Carla McPherson of Jamaica and her two children, Ashante’ Beckford, 3, and AJ Beckford, 10 months, had been watching TV when McPherson noticed smoke coming from her daughter’s bedroom.
She discovered that the bed in her daughter’s room had caught ablaze. The mother of two was forced to flee to safety. However, three-year-old Beckford suffered minor burns to her right leg and was taken to the Mount St John's Medical Center by the Emergency Medical Services.
The fire was quickly brought under control; however, the house was completely destroyed.
