Drama Unfolded in Magistrate's Court

Drama Unfolded in Magistrate CourtAntigua St. John's - Anderson Elvin, husband of female police officer Karen Silcott appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh on charges that have raised questions.

Visibly limping into the courtroom, the court enquired about his walking at which time he told the Magistrate that he had a gunshot wound at the back of his leg and one to his shoulder. On further enquiry the Court was told that both wounds were bleeding.

Elvin was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling house of his wife to commit murder.

Represented by Attorney at Law Michael Archibald he made application for bail which was granted on condition that he stay away from his wife and that he reports to St. John's Police Station every Saturday between the hours of 6am and 6pm.

There was no cash requirement by the Court that ordered that the accused be taken immediately to the MSJMC for further medical attention for the bleeding wounds.

She also suggested to the prosecutor to review the charges which were returned to him.

Anderson Elvin was allegedly shot and wounded by police Constable Charles who was at the time in the company of the defendant's  wife Karen Silcott.

Among the legal fraternity some members are of the view that the actions of the police amounted to  abuse of authority and the Court's process.

The matter has been adjourned until July 2, 2013.

Amen i agree with you 1000000%!!!!!!! !!!!!! When you are always speaking ill about other people things tend to come back around in your face. I am not rejoicing in her drama but maybe if xxx didnt xxxx to xxxx, xxxx and xxxx xxxx these comments would probably be of a sympathetic and positive nature. Thank God her husband is alive and hopefully all this will pass and just be a terrible memory. Im not one of her biggest fans but as old people say all this talking will last for just about ten days then some other hot topic will surface. She is not the first woman that this has happened to and she definitely wont be the last. Hopefully she learns a solid lesson from this.

DRAMA UNFOLDED IN MAGISTRATE´S COURT

#17 Lord Have Mercy » 2013-03-13 14:34

It is very likely that there was some drama in the court, but the journalists who wrote this report did not capture the DRAMA that is claimed to have occurred in court. It is the responsibility of the Journalist to convey to the readers the heightened sense of drama that existed in the courtroom at the moment. Please editors, raise the standard of what you regard as acceptable reporting.

I am not trying topull you down, just a constructive criticism intended to further improve a high quality product.

This reminds me of the shooting of Toby, in Liberta, a few years ago. That case ammounted to nothing more than another farce!
Im puzzled though as to what evidence exists that his intension was to commit murder! Why would the prosecution bring such a serious charge, then not even object to bail?! Something not adding up & i smell a rat!

Top Flop strikes again my brothers and sisters. What a mess. Elvin is charged with offences etc...what about the police officer who shot him? Did Elvin hav a weapon? No. Is this really an attempt robbery or just 3 persons in a love triangle caught up in a mess. Did the police officer have permission from Top Flop to have a weapon. Why was the weapon at home with the police officer? There are more questions than answers. BTW, when the Magistrate returns the charges to the police prosecutor, she is telling you something. How can Elvin get a fair shake when the matter is prosecuted by the police themselves? He cant get a fair shake in the court. I suggest the DPP intervene to stop this insanity and abuse of power. I am again embar**ed by the actions of the Top Flop. When is the election again?

Smell a fish anyone? Breaking and entering (obvious) - Intent to commit murder (umm - police investigative efficiency at its best). Why would a magistrate grant bail without the normal surety for such a charge? The stench is unbearable. With all the criminal activities on the island, one would think improving the public perception of ABPF would be a part of the solution.

Drama Unfolded in Magistrate's Court

#8 SlyThatGuy » 2013-03-13 09:12

Based on what I've read about this incident, the fact that there has never been any mention of Anderson Elven having any weapon, the police officer should be the one facing attempted murder charges for shooting an unarmed person. Just because he has a gun(and is the new boyfriend of Mr.Elvin's estranged wife)doesn't mean that he's authorized to maliciously shoot it because Mr.Elvin breaks into his estranged wife's dwelling. Charging Mr.Elven with breaking in to commit murder when, evidently, he did not have any weapon doesn't sound right.

Hail up Sah, a wah a guarne? Clean out u mailbox or ansa u fone...What's new, is "a new washing machine" for the Police Force, therefore, their "dirty laundry" will get a good washing. It is also capable of washing credit cards, dollar bills etc.
I am headed to Arizona next week. We just added a new wing to the holistic center to dispense Marijuana's finest high grades. In addition, a distillery is also been set up to extract the oil from the seeds.
Give me shout out....
