Antigua St. John's - The police and the fire department are investigating three fire reports in less than 48 hours.
It was reported that shortly after 10 am on Sunday, fire tenders from the St John’s Fire Service responded to a scene at Bay Street, Villa, where a 28x46 three-bedroom house was on fire.
The occupants had left home an hour earlier, and received a telephone call saying their home was on fire. The fire is said to have started in a western bedroom, where a mattress was destroyed. The fire tenders managed to extinguish the flames before there was any further damage. Investigations are ongoing.
In another incident, the fire tenders responded to a scene in Jennings, where a 16x20 two-bedroom wooden house and a 20x36 three-bedroom wooden house were on fire.
The fire apparently started in the 16x20 house, and eventually spread to the adjacent building in the same yard.
Both houses were completely destroyed, along with a vehicle parked in the yard. Fire tenders managed to extinguish the blaze, preventing any further damage to nearby structures. Both houses were unoccupied at the time, and were without electricity. The incident took place at around 6 pm on Monday.
Fire tenders from the St John’s Fire Service were again called upon on Monday to respond to a car fire in New Winthorpes involving a white Nissan Tiida.
It was reported that the driver had been heading north on the Cedar Valley main road when he heard a puffing sound coming from under the bonnet, followed by smoke. As he pulled off the road, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. No one was injured.
