Gun Crimes Plaguing Businesses

Bullet hole Antigua St. John's - Business operators and citizens throughout the nation have been plagued by a series of gun crimes and robberies.

In recent times, criminals have embarked on a spree from St John's to the suburbs to outlying communities.

Most recently, they have attacked popular cricket entertainer Labon “Gravy” Benjamin at his home in All Saints, the Risk Takers supermarket in Freemans Village, Brownies Bakery headquarters on lower St John's Street, and yesterday, the Oceanus restaurant in the Valley Church area.

Reports reaching Caribarena indicated that the owner, Glen Hector, came under attack when two masked gunmen attempted to rob him.

He was shot in the leg while the staff bus driver, Jawana Michael, aka "Champ," reportedly attempted to run over one of the gunmen as he too came under attack. Michael sustained a gunshot wound to his hand. Both men were rushed to emergency treatment, and were said to be in stable condition.

No details were available about what was stolen.

The incident was reported to the police, who are investigating. No arrests had been made up to press time.

Criminals get easier money than work hard will you believe they will stop without heavy punishment,a new edition law shoud put on gun crimes any body inuolved in gun crimes should be sentenced to life prison without any court case, maybe this is only way to stop them.
In eastern country like japan and china gun crime is no tolerance crime,15 years prisonment is minimum penalty

MAKE FLOGGING MANDATORY FOR ALL ARMED ROBBERY AND WOUNDING WITH INTENT.

That will certainly reduce these violent crimes.

As a community we have to come together to solve this problem. It is very sad when our brothers feel it necessary to rob one another but then to shoot each other is beyond the bounds of what is acceptable.

Glen like us is a new business, the season was one of the worst we have encountered and then on top of this we have this to deal with!

I am very sad that our nation has become so desperate, get well soon guys, hopefully times will turn for the better

MY WAY OF HELPING

the foot soldiers, consiglieres & capos

#10 Jumbee Picknee » 2013-02-25 11:57

The foot soldiers of Our Government, a criminal organization is has taken matters in their own hands. They are not been paid since there is no funding coming from the government's coffers, the treasury, therefore, to maintain their lifestyles, they are taxing(robbing) the citizens directly, since the capos & consigliers cannot rob(tax) the citizens with the pen/paper or qwerty board and then pas$ on their share to them.
Call a spade a spade and not a heart....

I feel that stiffer sentenses, for anyone caught with illegal guns , of 10 to 20 yrs will certainly deter some of these idiots

Gun Crimes Plaguing Everybody

#7 Fair » 2013-02-25 09:43

It is being reported that once there is a recession, crimes would increase. All over the world there is the cry that criminal minds are finding more creative ways to scam and enrich themselves. Persons with criminal minds always have an intent to rob persons, as they themselves do not know what a "fair day's work for a fair day's pay" means. Likewise, in Antigua, there is a culture of "handouts" that is plaguing our society and is not metered out as freely as before. Some persons want "the government to change" as they cannot sit at the corner and get monies at the end of the week/month as usual. Some dont want the goverment to change because they are getting a pay that they do not work for. However, coupled with those that do not work, but seemed to enjoy a lifestyle better than the hardworking 9/5, there are those whose main employ cannot satisfy their living demand. Check the gun license given to undeserving political croonies during 2002-2004 that has not been renewed. They come to rob and kill. Thats the mentality now.

When Trinidad was having problems with an explosion of kidnappings they went and got help from the government of Colombia, which had been dealing with that problem for decades and had developed effective strategies. With the help of the Colombians, today kidnappings in Trinidad have been drastically reduced.

When US cities face escalating crime they find a Commisioner who is a proven experts to lead he force (For example, Commissioner Kelly in NYC).

Crime fighting is a science, it is not a political issue for politicians to seek political mileage or for the general public to HAVE THEIR SAY.

Experts are needed to solve the crime problem.

This is so sad my little 108 .... M,y take on this is that these hard core criminals arent getting enough time behind bars they need to be locked away for a very long time 25-30 years if caught robbing some one especially if firearms is involved them litte 3 5 and 7 years cant work thats just enough time for them to sit and think of how to do another crime without getting caught ..a longer time in prison reality will and must sink in a man caugh with herb getting more time in prison and a stiffer penality than these criminals what in the world is this time for a change tooooo much guns on our streets...Lord im asking u please put your hands over this little island of ours its time for people to realize is people use guns and kill people gun cant kill nobody unless its in the hand of someone...

Gun violence task force headed by our police chief. As a resident, I demand that the police chief and minister stand before us publicly and show us...again not TELL US ....what the task force has accomplished. How many search warrants executed, how many stop and searches carried out, how may road blocks performed, where are the patrols and what did the police/defence force do on these patrols, is intelligence being developed to effect search warrants? If the police chief and security minister cannot or will not show us the results...then they must be fired and replaced by competent persons! I am very sad with the state of crime in our country...

What good is serveillence cameras when the bandits are wearing mask and armed. Make it easier for law abiding citizens to own fire arms is the best solution not importing and installing cameras at their homes and places of business.
