Suspects Held for Monday Night Shooting

Suspects Held for Monday Night Shooting Antigua St. John's - Swift action by the police has resulted in the detention of at least three men suspected in the shooting of 40-year-old Evinston “Shaka” Joseph earlier this week. Police spokesman Corporal Frankie Thomas confirmed this on Thursday.

“The police do have persons in custody assisting in the investigation,” Corporal Thomas said.

He added that notwithstanding, it is too early to declare where the investigation or the questioning of the suspects will lead.
“But it is safe to say that we do have persons in custody,” Thomas said.

Meanwhile, Joseph remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mount St John’s Medical Center (MSJMC).

He was reportedly shot in the head while attempting to fight off one of two armed gunmen who attempted to rob him in Willikies on Monday night.

“The victim is still the same in the ICU, still on life support. There is not much to report that is different from the other days,” Corporal Thomas said.

Details of the incident suggested that Joseph was pounced upon while sitting in his grey Daihatsu jeep with his girlfriend.

Reports from the girlfriend said that the men approached the vehicle from both the driver and passenger sides and demanded money from the occupants.

When the struggle began, she told police she managed to escape and run for help. She came back and found Joseph injured.

Our priorities are wrong #2

#12 Observer » 2013-02-23 21:44

And as we know now they use the drone to kill anyone where ever and whosoever is considered a threat. I guess it would have to take a situation where it becomes personal for them to make it a priority. Cause if my memory serves me well, even the president of the senate was once a victim of crime and one female minister had her house also burglarized. But that didn’t move them to pull out all the stops. I really wonder what will. But time is not on our side and things are getting worse every day. You just wonder when you will be next. And all we the people want is some peace in our live. I know you cannot get rid of all crimes but certainly you curtail this type of vicious rapes and robbery that are terrorizing us. Mr. Prime minister if there is one thing that I believe should be your main responsibility, is to keep us safe. So do the right thing.

Our priorities are wrong #1

#11 Observer » 2013-02-23 21:41

While Rome is burning BS is fiddling his thumb. Playing with CIP. Citizens are terrorized now for months perhaps years by armed bandits. Robbery and rape are common place today in our little society that used to be so peaceful not too long ago. Had it been the Government’s priority to rid us from this evil, they would have prioritize and spend our hard earned tax dollars to keep us safe and bring peace and tranquility back in our lives. But I guess that is not important. We should be passing special laws and resolutions to give the police or a special unit the powers to go after these criminals. This unit should be well funded and have specific targets. In a small island like ours it should not be long before you can find out from which corner these elements operate from. After 911 the US took the threat of terrorism so serious that they formed special Homeland security units to go after these persons. Special powers were given to wiretap and what you not anyone suspicious.

...tracking....

#10 Jumbee Picknee » 2013-02-22 17:23

Today, the tracking and movement of individuals are done without the angry cries of civil libertarians regarding the infringement of one's personal freedom.
We have all recognize, that the archaic methods of tracking, even though they still serve some purpose MUST BE UPGRADED to match the times we're living in. Therefore, it is high time, and I am not referring to the Hemp Magazine but, HIGH TIME, that the law enforcement agencies, lease satellite time and track movement throughout the Nation using infrared and heat sensoring devices.
Get it?????

It does not take rocket science to know that even though most of the poor in ANU are the ones who are usually caught in some of these crimes, that they certainly do not have the means and connections to import the large quantities of drugs, guns, and ammunitions that have a strangle-hold on the island. They are mere pawns on the chessboard. There is no doubt in my mind that there are some wealthy people in ANU who are the masterminds behind most of the crimes; even some of those yacht owners on the island. They use the poor to carry out their biddings, because many of them are desperate. I also believe that some on leadership position are paid handsomely to turn a blind eye. The Police really need to turn their focus on those with the means who usually get free p** on their cargo and imports. I will continue saying the leaders need to stop this charade and arrest the real masterminds.

Morris and otherd

#8 Dig It » 2013-02-22 12:05

My friends our little paradise is becoming more and more "terrifying" to live in! Every week there is a 'gun related' crime. And, we keep hearing there is a 'crime plan' that is yet to show some progress. Yet, we need to also have a sound 'economic plan' that create JOBS and opportunities for the people, and, make sure our youths in many constituencies are not left out! Many bloggers including myself have talked about varies approach to fight crime. Just last week we heard of the police out in fullforce to conduct vehicle searches outside of a night club early in the morning. Yet, it has proven that this 'strategy'don't work. Just where the guns are coming from is the "key" piece of puzzle that missing, as we need to 'curb/stop' them from coming into these shores. Morris, as a military personnel you know that when it comes to 'intelligence' every and all corners is touched. Our problem in this country is that 'politricks' always hinder progress in getting things done (the right way that is).

i am and will always be a firm believer in the reintroduction of corporal punishment for offenses such as this.... prehistoric punishments such as whippings with the "cat" and hanging NEEDS to be again reintroduced and this type of activity will cease to occur.... forgive me if im bing brutal, but guess what? These actions are not going to cease unless SERIOUS are taken!!! And these individuals are beng FAR from nice!

Round up the usual suspect again. "Swift action have resulted in the detention of at least three male suspect". "The police do have persons in custody assisiting in the investigation" so said corporal Thomas. "But it is safe to say we have persons in custody". Just like Gravy there were three suspects, one was released and end of story. To this day no one has been charged but the public gets another cock and bull story.

"But it is safe to say that we do have persons in custody," wrong words Mr Thomas.
