Forensic Tests on Remains of Aneisha Millet

Forensic TestsAntigua St. John's - Police are still to conduct additional tests to help determine the cause of death of Aneisha Millet, whose body was fished out of the water at Devil’s Bridge last July, following inconclusive autopsy findings last year.

Head of the Strategic Communication Department within the Police Force, Inspector William Holder confirmed to Caribarena that they will be bringing in specialists to conduct additional forensic tests to determine how the thirteen year old met her demise.

Asked if there were any suspects in the case, Holder stated that they are awaiting the results of the test so as to determine the way forward with the investigations.

The autopsy performed on her remains was ruled inconclusive by Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Mandi Pedican of the Bahamas, whose services were secured by the police department to perform the examination.

Last year, the Police had reported that samples from Millet’s body were to be sent off to an external laboratory for toxicology analysis, and that this would have held up investigations in the death.

Caribarena had learned, that drowning was ruled out as a cause of death for the Bethesda teen as there were no foreign elements in her lungs. Millet had also sustained two fractures to the rib and this is not believed to have been caused by her body hitting the rocks while in the water near Devil’s Bridge.

Millet’s body was recovered from the water last July 7 and was identified by her family after a Police composite drawing of her was published in the local media.

Since then several persons had been questioned in the matter but to date there are no suspects. One of the persons questioned last year was a police officer attached to the Dockyard Station, who reportedly, had contact with the deceased.

Millet was reported missing to the police by members of her family.

Was it not too long our National Security Minister hailed our new Forensic lab and the well trained members of the force that graduated in some special program? Where are they on this case and how come we have to hire some one from off island?

@ Morris, I agree with his/her opinion. Why is it in 2013 there not one Forensic Pathologist and/or facilities to carry out the necessary tests. Are the children in A&B being given good careers advice as to the type of professions that are required for their community. All too often everyone wants to be a doctor or lawyer but there are so many other professions that are required. The Govt should be hightlighting those professions that are needed and provide scholarships/in centives, if necessary.

It is 2013 and we're still relying on external entities to conduct forensics before we can move forward. I am sure we would have had a state-of-the-ar t forensics lab had the gov't not wasted so many millions on unforecasted and non-value added projects. These are the types of infrastructural issues that should be foremost in budgetary proposals and discussions/deb ates.
