All Saints Family Robbed

All Saints Family RobbedAntigua St. John's - An All Saints family was reportedly robbed by an armed, masked man. Money and valuable items were reportedly taken.

Three family members had reportedly been sitting on their gallery with a friend when the man forced his way onto the premises and held them at gunpoint.

He took an undisclosed sum of money and jewelry, two Antigua and Barbuda passports, two St Lucia passports, and other important documents. A shot was also reportedly fired during the incident, but no one was injured.

He was described as about 5' 3" in height, heavy built, dark in complexion, and was wearing a camouflage jacket and a pair of black shorts. The incident reportedly took place sometime between 8 pm on Tuesday and 5 am on Wednesday.

Also, the owners of a restaurant on St Mary’s Street reported that someone broke into their business place and stole a number of household and cleaning items. This incident took place between 12:30 and 8:15 am on Wednesday.

Lady, you're speaking the truth...
And, guess what, the 'hand to mouth' and 'buddy/cartel' way of living will continue to thrive, unless Antiguans stop been ostriches

...reaping what we sew...

#19 Jumbee Picknee » 2013-02-08 13:31

20 years ago, many of us were sounding the alarm bell, sirens etc, based upon the behavior which the Politicians, the youths were exhibiting.
Politicians like x x Jr were openly sponsoring gangs and even had their names on gang clothes.
Gangsta G most popular gift to boys in Point & Villa was toy guns.
All psychological manipulation, planting of the seeds of caos in fertile and fragile minds of the youths. Therefore, we have to reap what was sewn. VIOLENCE....
These are the same politicians who the Nation have to trust.
There motto is "Out of caos, comes Order." Axxxh Hxxxx's theme and We are about to elevate his servants to the highest positions in Our Nation.

It is not exactly New York or London.

Apparently not, NYC has a murder rate less than half that of Antigua, London something like one quarter.

Enough talk, time for action!

In certain ethic neighborhoods in the U.S., when a resident is a victim of crime or any public safety issue, a 'horn' is used to alert fellow residents that someone of their own is in "distress." When that 'alert' is sent out, residents come out in numbers to aid their own or in some cases would put up a 'blockade' in the streets, as a way to keep the perpetrator from "evading-the-la w." In this country, it is the same "trend" in most robberies or crime: "a masked man about 6ft tall and slim." Why isn't the COP or CrimeStopper appealling more to the John Public to "keep an eye out for each other" and get involve in organizing Neighborhood Watch Groups? There comes a point when concern residents will have to put matters in their own hands, when it comes to their 'sense-of-safet y' in their homes and neighborhoods. If law enforcement officials can't do the job of protecting the public then we'll have to defend our turf ourselves! Let's not just 'talk' for sake of it or even wait for the politicians to come to our rescue. Let's take matters in our hands, and, take back our streets and homes from the bandits!

Antigua has the lowest police to citizen ratio in CARICOM possibly the world 1:114. That is one police for every 114 civillian and they claim to suffer from manpower shortage. What they suffer from is poor deployment, non existent supervision and a lack of leadership. But perhaps most importantly they are afraid. Afraid to become a victim themselves and afraid if they act they will not have the support of the force and the community.
The responsiveness and effectiveness of our police
force is related to capacities and capabilities. Perhaps the more
challenging issue is the effective use of these human resources. Adequate police to population ratio is a condition for effective service delivery and the protection of the population, but is not sufficient. The effectiveness and efficiency of even the largest police services enjoying the best resources may be compromised by corruption and poor leadership.

The looking glass

#15 Ms Scotland » 2013-02-08 11:31

We have seen the enemy and it is us. The criminals are known and seen by the community and family, but we see and don’t see. Instead of shame, families of the criminals go to the court house to riot and cuss victims. We’ve had a serious immigration problem for 30 years, but there has been no white march or red march or blue march for that. With the increase in crime, where is the demand for stiffer sentences and the removal of any legal restrictions to the resumption of hanging? It is not the “parties’ or politicians, but Antiguans who have failed Antigua.

I wonder

#14 Hmmmm » 2013-02-08 10:45

All this crime is happening and the police is unable to do anything. The powers that be are unable to come up with an effective plan. Maybe their eyes would open when someone comes and robs them at gun point and ha** their family in front of them. Maybe then they would get up and do something. These gangsters will not stop until one or few of them are shot when they break into our homes. Funny thing is, the law protects them if that happens but not us.

What is the problem here? Why can't our police force police 108sq mls? It is not exactly New York or London. Do they need to recruit more policemen/women ? The police should be patrolling the streets 24hrs a day, perhaps more police should be on duty at night since, that is when most of the crimes are committed. The criminals should be afraid........n ot citizens but it seems to be the opposite. Although, there is a place for neighbourhood watches it is up to the police to maintain law and order. Come on Police Commissioner... ..solve this problem or get someone who can.

Several police officers were being monitored and they did not know it. They did not respond to emergency calls. One was caught getting busy with his girlfriend and ignored an emergency and 4 others sat and had coffee and donuts. One already fired the others suspended awaiting administrative review and possible termination. The difference is, if caught in the USA you get fired.

#9 God Is In Control » 2013-02-08 09:44

The fact of the Matter is that we see today in Antigua and Barbuda that the Police and military is trying their utmost best to solve crimes but we need to know that we are powerless without Christ. Faith without work is dead and if we as citizens want change we have to work for it. man have tried now let God try, let us turn to him with all our heat.

I am sick and tired of this heavy built shorta** making the headlines. The next 5"3' heavy built male I encounter, I will shadow and follow around, until I'm satisfied, that he is not the criminal. If everyone would look around their friends and family circle, I bet one heavy built shorta** would stand out like a sore thumb.
sick of this!!!!!!

The police cannot do everything, they are not God. Therefore we as citizens of Antigua and Barbuda need to assist them in their crime fighting method and stop blaming them for everything.
true some of them are not loyal to twhat they believe, but there are those who have tasken theri job quite serious, and can use the assistance of the general public. Help them to help us

I live with my grandma only, and I am telling you I am scared...... Real scared.... Cops are sleeping and criminals are taking over. Those cops are not serious about their work. Maybe some of them. They got no hearts. They are scared too, so I guess it is all up to us to be brave and take things in our own hands. I am not advocating crimes, but hey my life is vital so is yours.

Our PM claims we are above the poverty line index, so things are not that bad, but we the people knows better. We have all of the various crimes known to man hitting us at the same time, Gangster type crime, Drug crime, Sexual crime, money laundering, home invasions and the most popular the gun bandits who just do what the hell they want when ever and where ever. Our Ghettos was Point and Grays Farm, now these criminal are turning the entire nation into Ghetto, can't play a game of domino, can't sit on your own veranda anymore and having a great number of friends with you still isn't safe enough. Remember people the words of our Commissioner "by the middle of this month". Antigua have fallen and can't get up.
