this has got to be a sick joke by Justice Thom. this animal should never be allowed to see the sun light for what ever life he has remaining on this earth. our laws needs to revised so that the punishment fit the wickedness of these crimes.

this is appalling to say the least. First and foremost the weight of the child is irrelevant to the crime being committed. This is a cas of statutory rape and not sexual intercourse as the child is a minor. This man is very lucky to have been given this sentence......I do not see this as sending a strong message to other perpetrators... ...Lets pray that this girls life will get the right support to carry her through life because this type of trauma is devastating to begin with. I pray the right and proper support will be put in place to assist the child with coping strategies and that there are workshops and awareness commmittees to spread the word about recognizing the signs of this type of crime. I am also proud of the mother that she did not doubtor blame her child like some mothers often do. Believe in yor children. Stand up for your children. Fight for your children. Love your children. Be aware of the persons around your children, Protect your children.

Women need to find out about men like these before they build relationship with them. This poor child have to live with this for the rest of her life. I think the Magistrate should of given him 20 years to send a strong warning.

Age of consent is 16 in Antigua and Barbuda NOT 18 as indicated by another above. He did take advantage of the situation and the punishment is deserved.

This is what our politicians should be going to parliament to pass bills on, getting longer sentences to these worthless men who prey on our innocent children. This is statutory rape- because the girl involved is below the age of consent(younger than 18 years). This means she cannot legally consent to having sex. So the act is a crime and the girl is a victim of rape regardless of the fact that she willingly participated or engaged in having sexual relation with Darren Francis. But if Chief Justice Keith Thom really wanted to send a strong signal to perpetrators,he could have handed down a more serious jail sentence. A severe penalty of ten-or twelve years in jail would have been a strong signal,not a mere 6 years.

Animal deserved to be "caged!" It is about time our criminal justice system, not only sentenced these perpetrators, who committed acts of sexual offences with minors but put them on a public's 'watch list,' so those in the public would be fully aware of them. Perhaps public notification will deter or end these offenses against minors.
