Commissioner Mum on Promotion

Commissioner Mum on PromotionAntigua St. John's - Despite public pronouncement championing the cause for promotion for the female officers under his command, Commissioner of Police Vere Browne appeared to have become mum.

When contacted by caribarena in respect to promotion for several male and female officers, he said he had no time to listen to or address any queries about these officers.

Last week, the top cop announced on state media that he had noticed the obvious gender bias in the force, and the complete disregard for educational standing and merit as the determining factors for promotion.

Caribarena contacted the commissioner for comment on why officers who have proven to be both efficient and competent have not been promoted. These include Assistant Superintendents Joseph Hughes and Albert Chastanet, and Inspectors Mary Greenaway-Davis, Daisy Hector, and Claudette Mason.

Furthermore, Caribarena has been reliably informed that police sergeant Cecilia Francis has filed a motion in the High Court for a judicial review to ascertain why she was not considered for a promotion, having been acting in the rank of senior sergeant for a considerable length of time.

Questions have also arisen about why a female officer has not been elevated to at least the rank of assistant superintendent or commissioner following the elevation of Delano Christopher to the rank of Commissioner.

Caribarena has also learnt from the rank and file members that there has been a certain amount of favoritism within the police service of personnel without the requisite competencies and merit.

The Ministry of Education is another governement institution charaterized by promotions based on patronage rather than merit. I am challenging caribarena to make some enquiries into the Ministry of Education especially the Agricultural Science department. This is the only department where there is a corodinator and an assistant. Please investigate!!!!

The promotional system which was based on performance and merit was abandoned when Chief Brown took over the helm. Back to the old boy system of senior boys sitting around and pushing their candidates forward based on favouritism and nationality.... no process; no system; no fairness. The Police Service Commission only promotes Antiguan nationals...the media should be asking the PSC for comment!! Look at the head of CID for example? Time for a change in police leadership...ne xt election.

There are many more officers who have the training and experience that can keep crime under control but politics In everything! What happen to the intellegence unit that Christopher disband in 2005 and then disclose the names of the officers on that unit in the news paper? The officers better know as the pit bulls had crime on lock down...... Corporal John, Corporal Williams, Corporal Wilson and Constable Alves...... What happen to them!!!!!????? No promotion for them.......!!! Please and these are just a few of the officers that are being ignored and victimized.

Come on Vere Browne be a man and not a lap dog!

Once again we say...Cort and Browne must go! The UPP culture is that supporters must get the cheese! Until these UPP acolytes are removed, or the Government is changed, this "pappy show" will continue unabated!
