John , I agree with you totally. I am a business owner, well respected and upstanding citizen on ANU who applied for a licence to carry a legal firearm and was denied solely on the reason that too many firearms are on the street of A&B as stated in the letter received from the commissioner of police. Now, they did all the possible character checks et al. and found nothing of blemish, yet I was denied. My business place has been robbed several times, it was actually set on fire once by perpetrators yet it means nothing. In essence what has happened, and the commissioner is correct, there are too many guns in Antigua- but if I may add the word "illegal"; so what needs to happen is that respected, upstanding citizens who desire to hold a licence for a firearm, and who pass the extensive scrutiny by the investigators should be afforded the opportunity. The police cannot do it all on there own and until they realize many perpetrators of the wicked, absolutely awful acts will escape justice.

what make anyone think that EVER ONE THAT have or WANT a GUN is to commit crime> Every citizen should have as a natural right, the right to own and carry a gun. Most person who carry a gun is for protection, The Bar owner at Piggotts was shot doing his own business, the man at the bar at Buckleys was shot enjoying himself, the Shop owner at Freemans Village, was in his shop trying to earn an honest living, but he was shot and the list goes on. My 84 year young mother says at times, 'misery loves company.' However, this does not mean, that the evil doers physically walk away, oh no, quite the contrary, start using the death penalty, mandatory life for repeat offenders etc.

Did anybody see her boyfriend pulled the trigger? the law is innocent until proven guilty so lets not assume that he killed her, it could have been anybody who to tell maybe the bullet was not meant for her maybe it was meant for him, maybe it was a woman, maybe it was a man who fired the shot it's just a bunch of maybe's, maybe he had a girlfriend or a wife who thought he was cheating and she got in the way just maybe. But in the end the lords see all and knows all and i hope that the killer is brought to justice so that the family of Rose can get a piece of mind and answers as to why there child's life had to be taken

I read this story filled with anger. I do not know the young lady nor the circumstances surrounding her murder but what I know is that no one has the right to take another's life. This is so sad! Condolences to her family and friends. There is a small child left without a mother for something which has to be senseless. We truly need to take the time to see if there are things we can do to prevent a repeat of something like this. Perhaps the answer lies in our striving to promote more emotional intelligence (EQ) training (would include things like self control training). Even some of the comments show how dire the need for EQ training is.

What is the govt of A & B doing to address the increase in gun violence? I read Caribarena every day and the silence is deafening. How are these illegal firearms making their way to our shores? It must be by sea, so how are they penetrating security? all barrels and vessels must be thoroughly checked for contraband. The coast Guard should be at sea day and night intercepting small unfamiliar vessels. I don't understand how this is allowed to go on in our island paradise. Heaven help the land of my birth. Any one caught with illegal firearms should be fined and jailed for at least 10 years. A strong message must be sent to criminals that this will not be tolerated.

I was Melissa's form teacher at Comprehensive when she was in form three (2006). She later went on to pursue English B at the CSEC level... I was a teacher and it was a pleasure and privilege to teach her. She earned a grade 2.... RIP sweet Melissa.......

why are we assuming this young lady was cheating? Our first thought should be that this is very sad and that there is a motherless child now.

And whether she was cheating or not it doesn't give anyone the right to take her life.
