the crime problem

#21 Jumbee Picknee » 2012-09-04 20:15

Crime, like anythingelse, We huemans do is a learnt behavior which is taught formally, informally, subliminally etc. The problem of crime can only be curtailed, it can never be solved when those in the upper echelon of society is of the perception that it's ok for them to be criminals, an example of this is war, corporate espionage, corporate theft
On the other hand are those in the lower echelon who do the same things, just on a lesser scale. Either way, the average law abiding individual pays a price.
The fact of the matter is, those at the apex of the world, presidents, ceo's, etc are willing to to camoflauge their intent, since they are in it for the long haul. Those at the base of the order, just want a quick fix for the moment and could care less about longevity, thus they are easily manipulated
These are the basic hueman mentallity of crime.

It is hard to believe this is what my beloved Antigua has come too!!. When I first returned in the 1977 after 10 years away, I went somewhere with by brother, who had never left the island. When I alighted his car and locked the door, he said "bhoy wa you a lack up". Antigua was so safe there was no need to lock your vehicle. Boy oh boy how times has changed. There are people amongs the community who knows who these **s are? Unless they are prepared to talk to the police or the authoritie nothing will change. There are just to many police officers in Angigua who are in the job just for the pay cheque at the end of the month. They have no pride in their jobs or what they do. That said the blame cannot be laid with the police in the singular. Antiguans ask yourselves when was the last time your parlementarian came to visit your village and discussed your concerns. I'll tell you when; at the last election!!!

We need a change of mindset and leadership!

#17 ANTIGUAN WOMAN » 2012-09-04 14:40

I dont think blame should be placed on the police, they are not the ones responsible for our Economic/Social affairs. When you have young men especially from dis-functional in most cases single parent homes, walking the streets aimlessly and hopeless, cannot find Jobs,it creates a breeding ground for Crimes of all sorts. Mothers are frustrated,Soci ety has branded them as delinquents, the y are left to themselves with absolutely no self esteem, believe it or not most persons would like to feel like they have a place in society, when these needs are met with rejection from all circles,it creates Anger, jealousy and even hatred of others. The end result is a total lack of compassion or regard for human lives.

Im sorry but I dont mean to call anyone else but some of the comments are annoying. The Police can not be everywhere at once! We need to stop looking for the 3rd party to blame and look at ourselves! Charity begins at home, people need to stop raising spoiled children who want nice things fast, so instead of working they go and rob! God bless this man and his family and I pray for his full recovery

bus driver shot now what?

#15 rupert j. » 2012-09-04 13:28

I have the article and the comments and all I hear is government this and the police that what about the responsibility of the people, are you working with the police when you see or hear of a crime, do you call the police when you see suspicious persons lurking around, do you form yourselves into neighbor hood watches to help your community and the police these are just some of the questions I have to ask.

We are all to be blamed

#14 Jumbee Picknee » 2012-09-04 13:10

Greetings folks, this is NO JOKE. I said it before, and will do so again, again, again, THERE ARE ORGANIZED CRIMINAL ENTERPRISES operating within Our borders in conjunction with outside influences. The present breed of criminals were initiated in the late 1990's into now. They were funded and taught by the very society that they have become a menace to.
The GOAB, the police, customs, defence force, the Community all sat back with the mentallity that, DAT DE CAN'T HAPPEN YA,"
The incubation period is over, the eggs have hatched, they are now roosting. FACE THE FACTS, they're staring US dead, pun intended, in the face.
This is a cancer and band+aid don't treat cancer.
GET WELL SOON, YOU ARE NEEDED FOR THE INVESTIGATION

In a small country such as ANU it is SHOCKING that IDIOTS are running around with GUNS and someone could actually lose their life for a goal chain. Have we lost all morals and values or is it too much American/West TV? The police budget should be one of the largest, in order to control crime because failure to do so will affect TOURISM and if that goes, we all know what will happen, since the GOAB has failed to diversify the economy. The Police Commissioner and Minister must be held accountable for the rampant crime, where very few people seem to get caught. Why can't GOAB police 108 sq miles, it is not a massive country? I hope that this INNOCENT VICTIM make a full recovery. What has gone wrong with our society???

It is a shame that this had to happen.I am sure that the bus driver worked all day into the night to support his family and pay his bills. Then you have a coward with a gun shot him and robbed him. That in itself is a darn shame.I am living in the USA and when I come to Antigua.I take the precausion to protect myself and my family.Antigua is not the same loving island anymore. Please do not blame foreigners for the crime wave.To do so would be the biggest mistake.Too many guns in Antigua.Soon you will have more guns than people, like the United States. One of the ways you can deter gun violence is to impose mandatory life sentences for the illegal use of any firearm. No parole.Enforce the laws you have, use them to deter crimes and protect the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda. As a population you cannot be passive. You cannot run and hide from the criminals.Stand up for your neighbors and for yourselves.I am asking you the people of Antigua to turn anyone in the police. The police should not reveal their source of information.Sto p breaking into peoples homes, schools,c hurches.MY question to you is,how low can you go.

Same thing, different day.

#11 Morris » 2012-09-04 11:43

This is happening way to often in ANU, and the responses seem to be the same after each episode. The country is too small for so many of these crimes to go unsolved for as long as they do. We know the Police cannot be everywhere, but they sure can be better utilized; they need to get out of St. John's more often.

Don't Blame

#10 Joy » 2012-09-04 10:56

Until some more information is revealed, let not start placing blame here there and every where, we have to remember police are people just like all of us. Instead lets pray for the victim of this horriable crime.

Must be Police Week. The bad guys know that the police are practising for parades, drama groups, swimming, netball, choir, the band etc instead of patrolling the streets. How many police officers do you see on the streets before, during, and after Police Week, especially at night? None...they are either rehearsing or relaxing from rehearsing. Where is the leadership in the force? But the police will celebrate themselves this week.

Bus Drive Shot In Armed Robbery

#4 SlyThatGuy » 2012-09-04 07:52

Law enforcement has to protect public safety by taking these criminals off the streets(we need to weed them out), because they are dangerous to the community and by extension society. This is a crime for which someone has to be brought to justice. My prayers are with the victim, his family, and his close friends.
