Antigua St. John’s - Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Browne’s Avenue teenager whose body was fished from the waters of Deep Bay early Monday morning.
Divers attached to the Antigua & Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard retrieved the body of James Antoine around 7:50 am, police reports stated.
The deceased was said to be in the company of friends aboard a 26-foot fishing vessel, “Blue Whale” when they went on a picnic shortly after 5 pm on Sunday. It was further reported that at some point during the expedition, the boat dropped anchor at Deep Bay and Antoine jumped overboard for a swim.
While swimming, the young man allegedly experienced difficulties and called out for assistance. The owner of the vessel reported that he went to his assistance, but he, too, encountered problems and the teenager went under the water.
The Antigua & Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard was called in, and a search carried out for the body Sunday evening was unsuccessful.
The ABDF divers returned to the scene early the next morning and the body was discovered approximately 50 feet from the shoreline.
Antoine was pronounced dead on the scene by Dr. Charles.
The police do not suspect any foul play at this point; however, a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Everyone who knew him well knew that he could not swim. Very strange that he would dive into the water to show off that he could swim.
My condolences to the mum as well as father James, Aunt Agatha Scotland, and his Grandmother Ann Hamlet
