Two Convicted for Dangerous Driving

Dangerous DrivingAntigua St. John’s – Two men were convicted and fined in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after they answered to charges of dangerous driving.

Anthony Davis, 35, of Bolans who was involved in a traffic accident on the Golden Grove Main Road on Saturday, pleaded guilty when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh. He was ordered to pay $2,000 forthwith or an alternative six months’ imprisonment at Her Majesty’s Prison.

Davis was accused of driving dangerously and causing an accident that led to three people - Dale Edwards, Elaine Christopher and her teenage daughter Kevena Christopher sustaining injuries and had to be rushed to hospital as a result.

Police reported that around 5:30 pm Saturday, Davis’ white Honda Accord motor car collided with a blue Toyota Tercel, causing it to lose control and skid off the road into a shed where several people were sitting.

The three injured parties have since been treated and discharged.

The other matter involved Ernest Gittens of Royal Gardens who was also convicted on the charges of dangerous driving and driving an unlicensed vehicle, and was fined $2,000 and $1,000, respectively.

Gittens was ordered to pay $2,000 forthwith and the remainder by October 1, 2012, failing which he would serve six months’ and three months’ jail time, to run consecutively, at Her Majesty’s Prison.

A number of persons were convicted in the St John’s Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, after they were charged with possession of cannabis over the Carnival weekend.

Jason Meade of Gray’s Farm was convicted for having 9 grams of cannabis in his possession and was fined $500 forthwith or he would be jailed for one year.

Vanroy Smith of Villa was also convicted and fined $500 after he was found with 5 grams of cannabis. The fine was to be paid on the spot or the alternative would be one year’s incarceration.

Meantime, on the charge of having 7.7 grams of cannabis, Neil Constant of Old Runway was convicted and fined $300 to be paid forthwith or the alternative six months in prison.

Whoever granted these miscreants a drivers license should be locked up as well.

What if they injured someone important, like an investor or expat providing income and jobs???

These "officials" need to be held to account for their actions!
