Police Investigate Weekend Woundings

Police updateAntigua St. John’s  Reports of a number of wounding incidents that occurred over the weekend have been the subject of police investigations.

The incidents, two of which took place while the victims were attending separate pre-Carnival fetes, resulted in several people being treated at Mount St. Johns Medical Center (MSJMC).

Firstly, a 40-year-old man from Seatons told police that around 4:30 am Saturday, he was walking through a crowd at the “Power Rumble” show at the Police Recreation Grounds when he was suddenly pushed to the ground by a group of young men.

He further reported that while making attempts to get up, he was pushed to the ground a second time.

During the incident he received two stab wounds to the back and thigh. He was taken to the hospital where doctors reported that the wounds were not life threatening.

Similarly, another man reported that while he was walking through a crowd of people attending the “Red Eye Fete” at the Antigua Recreation Grounds on Saturday evening, some unknown person(s) struck him in the head with an object.

The 23 year old, who resided in Villa, was taken to MSJMC where doctors reported that the injuries he received to the head and left side of his face were not serious. He was treated and later discharged.

The other incidents involved a 33-year-old Nut Grove man who is nursing a cutlass wound to his left hand after he was reportedly attacked by three men.

It is alleged that the victim was walking along Kentish Road in the vicinity of the Seventh Day Adventist Church when a silver Toyota Tercel motor car pulled up alongside him.

A man, armed with a cutlass, jumped out and used the weapon to inflict the wound to his hand. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors reported that the wound was not life threatening. He was treated and later discharged. The incident took place around 5:45 pm on Sunday.

A Gray’s Farm man also reported that while he was riding his bicycle through the King George V Grounds, an unknown man stabbed him in the back with a screwdriver.

It is alleged that shortly before the incident, the assailant, said to be about 5’ 5” tall walked up to the victim and told him not to ride through the area again.

The victim further reported that as he was about to continue his journey, the unknown man pulled a screwdriver from his pocket and stabbed him in his back, then fled the scene.

The injured man was rushed to MSJMC where the doctors reported that the wound was serious. He is said to be in stable condition. That incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Friday.

The police are continuing their investigations into the reports, and are appealing to anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913\14, or call Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).

What is happening? Notice the times of some of these incidents are not even in the dead of night. The criminals are becoming more bold. It is a scary thought. With only 108 square miles there is no room for all this violence! Citizens - what can we do? Time to take matters into our own hands?

Thats why I only attend the highly priced fetes ( Heelz,White Fete, Clours Fete) which keeps out a kinda crowd. I hate nuttin when your trying to have fun and you have some wild kids running around settling beef.
