Antigua St. John’s – Paula Peterson, a native of the Common wealth of Dominica who resided in St. Maarten, became the first person to be successfully tried and convicted under Antigua and Barbuda’s anti-money laundering laws.
In announcing the historic achievement, Director of the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP), Lt. Col. Edward Croft commended the joint efforts of members of the Customs and Excise Division, the ONDCP Financial Investigations Department and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On December 27, 2011, Peterson arrived at the VC Bird International Airport aboard LIAT flight #369, and was discovered by Customs officers to be carrying a large sum of money for which she had made a false declaration. The amount in question was US $60,406 and EC $300.
She was subsequently charged with three counts of money laundering and one count of making an untrue declaration to Customs.
She was subsequently convicted on guilty pleas of engaging in money laundering and concealing money which she had reasonable grounds to suspect was derived from unlawful activity.

RE: Landmark Money Laundering Conviction for Antigua and Barbuda
was allowed to continue operating existing businesses here , was granted licences to operate new ones and right under the notes of "regulatory Authority" operated his own little saving and Loan Business without a licence, now many of the immigrants who could not open bank accounts because they don't have the bank references form home saved with him and have been xxxxxx of all their money. Congratulation ONDCP and FSRC you are about as significant in your work as a fart in a hurricane.
