Two Charged With House Breaking and LarcenyAntigua St. John’s – Two men in their early 20s are facing charges stemming from allegations that they committed two separate offenses of house breaking and larceny.

In the first instance, a 22-year old Clare Hall man allegedly entered the dwelling of Wireless Road woman and stole US $1,000, an assortment of gold and silver jewellery valued at more than $8,000, and a number of electronic items to include an Apple iPod, DS3 game, PSP Game Boy, and an HP Compact Presario Laptop, totaling over $17,000.

This offense occurred on July 10th 2012.

In the second instance, a 23-year-old Skerritt’s Pasture man is accused of breaking into the home of a Cassada Gardens woman and stealing one 32” Visio flat screen television, one set of bed sheets, one Avon petal set, one silver chain, a pair of gold earrings, one iPod, one ear phone, and a bottle of perfume valued at over $4,000. This offense occurred on 27th June.

The Police arrested and charged both men on Monday.

In an unrelated matter, the police are investigating a report of robbery at Creekside, in which a couple from Villa said that they were relieved of their vehicle by three armed, masked men.

The victims, a 52-year-old man and his 48-year-old wife were reportedly just leaving their Creekside farm when three men, dressed in military fatigues and wearing masks, held them at gunpoint and tied them up.

One of the men allegedly struck the woman across her face with a gun, and then fled the scene in the couple’s grey Suzuki Grand Vitara motor jeep.

This incident took place around 8 pm on Monday. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

The crime in Antigua is on its way to that of Jamaica. If you think I'm being unrealistic, just read the headlines of the papers there. It is eerily similar.I can't help but worry about what lies around the corner for our tiny nation. We don't have room for this sort of stuff - literally! 108 square miles plagued with crime! How scary is that?! It is a fact that our police force is incompetent; comitting these crimes themselves or just plain stupid. The guns are being supplied to these youngsters. I don't want to go as far as to say that the politicians are supplying them for political gain, but what else CAN I SAY?! These things have been more and more prevalent since the shift in political control. Come man, arwe haffu do betta den dis! Antigua too likkle fa all ah dis mix up! When dem catch the teef an dem, bang dem wit wan bull bud! U go see crime rate drop!
