Antigua St. John’s – Over the weekend, police arrested and charged several persons who were found to be in possession of the illegal drug, cannabis.
On Friday, officers attached to the Narcotics Department of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda executed a search warrant on the premises of a 59-year-old man from Big Creek and discovered 417 cannabis plants and four pounds of cannabis.

Meanwhile, two youths, a 20 year old from Old Road, and a 23 year old from Skerritt’s Pasture were respectively charged for unlawful possession of four grams of cannabis valuing $40, and 10 grams of cannabis valuing $100.
Both were found with the controlled substance on Friday while they were at Swetes and Skerritt’s Pasture, respectively.
The police are investigating a number of robberies which took place over the weekend where several persons reported that they were robbed of their monies and other valuable items.
In one incident, a 65-year-old Marble Hill man reported that while he and his female companion were having a quiet moment in his vehicle in the vicinity of the Antigua Grammar School, two men armed with guns walked up to the vehicle and one of them allegedly broke the right front window with his gun and held them at gunpoint.
The man reported that he was robbed of his wallet which contained his driver’s license and an undisclosed sum of money along with his Blackberry cellular phone. The incident occurred shortly after 10 pm on Saturday.
An Old Parham Road resident reported around 2 am on Monday, he was awakened by the sound of someone breaking into his home.
He further reported that as he went to investigate, he was accosted by three men. One of the men was allegedly armed with a gun, the other with piece of iron, while the other appeared to be unarmed.
He was beaten and robbed of an undisclosed sum of money along with his gold and silver bracelet valued at $1,300. He later sought medical treatment for a wound he suffered to his hand.
Also, a 21-year-old man of Bendals reported that he was robbed of his money while walking along Market Street on Friday evening.
The young man reported that he had just left the Scotiabank ATM Machine, and was walking along Market Street when three men attacked him from behind.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old man of Sir Vivian Richards Street was charged with breaking, entering, and larceny after he allegedly broke into the home of a woman at Belle View Heights and stole a quantity of gold jewellery, clothing and electronic items all to the value of $60,750.10.
That offence occurred some time between 8:30 am and 1 pm last Thursday.
The police are continuing their investigations into these matters and are appealing to anyone with information to contact the nearest police station, or call Crime Stoppers at 800-Tips (8477).
