Antigua St. John’s – An early morning raid on Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) yielded dividends for law enforcement officers who confiscated numerous items of contraband and arrested and charged three inmates for the unlawful possession of cannabis.
The foray led by the Special Services Unit (SSU) of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda on HMP’s Maximum Security and Remand blocks, yesterday, netted a number of items believed to have been smuggled into the penal institution.
Among the items found were six cellular phones; 10 cellular phone chargers; five flash drives; 116 cigarette lighters, 54 wooden “Donkey” pipes; several pieces of sharp implements to include, nine scissors, two knives, nails, razor blades and screw drivers; several packs of cigarette wrapping paper; and a quantity of cannabis.
The police are investigating a report of wounding which caused a Greenbay man to be hospitalized in stable condition after he was stabbed and wounded at Jam Corner early Friday morning.
It is alleged that it was shortly after midnight when the man and an unknown male said to be about 6 feet tall, of fair complexion and slim built, got into a fight after they were engaged in a heated argument.
Further reports stated that the aggressor subsequently left the scene and returned with a bottle with which he struck the Greenbay resident in the head. The victim was taken to Mount St. Johns Medical Center and is reportedly being treated for non-life threatening injuries to the head and leg.
Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
