Bolans Youth Drowned

Antigua St. John’s – The country in general and the Bolans community in particular were plunged into mourning early Friday afternoon after news broke that 16-year-old Rasheed Martin apparently drowned in the waters off Pelican Isle near the ‘Round South village of Johnson’s Point.

Information provided by the police said that at about 1:15 pm, Martin was on an outing with several other young Bolans villagers when they attempted to swim to Pelican Rock, some 100 feet away from the closest point to Johnson’s Point.
 
Reports indicate that about half-way into the swimming expedition, Martin encountered difficulties and as a result was submerged in the sea. His companions and others quickly went to his assistance, but their efforts to resuscitate the teenager proved futile.
 
The young Bolans resident was later pronounced dead at the scene by Dr Scotland, and his body was transported to Straffie’s Funeral Home. A post-mortem examination will later be conducted to determine what caused his death.
 

As the police continue their investigations into the most recent drowning of a teenaged male, their Office of Strategic Communication (STRATCOM) conveyed their condolences to all affected by the teen’s passing.
 
“We here at STRATCOM, and to a greater extent the Acting Commissioner of Police and the entire rank and file of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, express sincere condolences to the family, relatives, friends and students…on the passing of Rasheed Martin,” the missive signed by PRO Corpl Frankie Thomas read.
