Man Shot, Carjacked in Perry Bay

Police reportAntigua St. John's - Thirty eight year old Miguel Brito is in serious but stable condition at the Mount St. John’s Medical Center (MSJMC) with bullet wounds in the hand and throat.

Brito is the victim of a car-jacking that took place outside the Media Luna (Half Moon) Night Club in Perry Bay.

Reports are that the victim went to the establishment around midnight.

Police spokesman William Holder said that based on reports so far, Brito parked his vehicle just outside Bargain Center and left the keys in the ignition with the windows partially opened.

Upon his return to the vehicle, it is reported that he saw someone sitting in the driver seat attempting to start the engine.

Brito reportedly ran to the car and wrestled with the intruder for a brief moment before being faced with a gun.

Holder said a single bullet was fired that hit the Dominican Republic native in the hand, then ricocheted into his face before lodging in the back of his neck.

The perpetrator then made off with the vehicle, which was found hours later on Saturday morning abandoned in the Donovan’s area.

So far the police have not made any arrests in the matter and a call has been made for the public to come forward with any information about the case.

In an unrelated matter another member of the police force appeared to have run a foul of the law.

The officer was accused of sexually molesting a 19 old female, he allegedly paid her $US100 to keep quiet and it apparently was counterfeit currency.

He has been charged with an attempted rape and he's expected to appear before the magistrate court in St. John's today.

He was been held in the police cell in St John's.

What carjacking?

#17 Daughter of Klaas » 2012-07-14 12:43

The role of the media is to report accurately on facts as they present themselves. According to POLICE SPOKESPERSON, Holder, the car was parked in the vicinity of Bargain Centrer, around midnight, with keys in the ignition and the windows left partly opened. His friends give another version. I am inclined to be guided by the Police spokesperson's report of the 'facts' and insist that the relevant insurance company take serious note! After all, my insurance rates could be affected by this incident and others of its kind. I make no apology for my stance.

Jumbee Picknee, continuing your theme, let me add "Is Just a Movie" by Earl Lovelace
Quote:
Beware of people who think they know you. We put up a fella from up here. But that is the worst thing we do, because he know us too well. He sees what we put up with, so he beleive we will settle for a place without lights, without water.
Its always telling how persons who suggested they knew all that was wrong before 2004 now tell us we should accept it.

There is nothing to get serious about, our Nation is just a movie set and 'cirQue de la Antigua' is been filmed. Lethal will get her head out of the sand after getting her scene and lines correct after she has had several "takes from bexxxd", she just might win an award for playing such a great role. It takes a lot of nerve been a man and put on makeup to be transgendered. Dr. BS will most definitely be nominated for the leading actor role...this is all a dream Young Analyst, you will wake up and realize, the guns are fake, the blood been shed is chicken blood(left over from the Obeah scenes), the bullets are made of rubber, the men in Police Uniform are all actors and we will all live happily ever after our children have been abused, raped, molested; our parents and grandparents traumatized while we watch from our lounge chairs at the Drive-In-Theatr e on Fryes Bay...Life is a Stage and we are the actors, very good calypso; part of the sound track for "cirQue de la Antigua...

Jumbee Picknee - why do we fear needed change?

#12 tenman » 2012-07-09 16:08

Jumbee Picknee, well said. Do you ever get the feeling that the general public really don't care about real solutions? Sometimes I wonder if we like the con because reality scares us. The solutions are evident but we prefer band aids. It reminds me of a story I read where some slaves were crying on emancipation day, worried about who will take care of them. I even recall persons before Independence day (Antigua & Barbuda) arguing who will now defend us and how will we survive. Then of course you then have our version of Robinson Crusoe/ Prosopero, telling us via his media house that the colonial days were better

Other symptoms of neargaritist/ni ggeritist is, the brain cells deteriorate at such slow pace, the individual percieves herself/himself to be an ostrich(head in the sand and behind in the air) clueless to the fact that their face should have the smile on and not their behind, the individual then trys to cover their exposed behind hoping that the spotlight will shine some place else.

The comments are about the Police Force and it's rogue members...Since you comprehend the English language...In an unrelated matter, another member of the Police Force appeared to have run a foul of the law...he has been charged with attempted rape, bribery and passing counterfeit money could be added. You are a classic case of someone whose brain has been affected by the niggeritist/nea rgaritist virus, and that is Lethal.

that is not considered to be car jacking. that happens only when someone is in the car. what happened there was a chance for an opportunity. if me want a ride a see a chance to take one, i am out of there. he was a foolish person for doing what he did. guess he will never make that stupid mistake again.

...vote of 'no confidence'...I I

...on the other hand, where the issues are too complicated to be handled, wisdom dictates that guidance is required and needed. Therefore, humility will have to be the order of the day but since hueman nature exhumes pride, pomp, distinction etc. especially in institutions like the Police Force, humility is not always heeded, therefore rather than taking a look at the same problem(s) from a different perspective with an open mind, the same tunnel vision is adhered to and vital time is lost, the problem is exasperated, all confidence is lost and the end result is usually death.
I think those in control of the Force now are now cognizant of these and is slowly killing the 'old boys' way of doing business. This MUST happen otherwise, the blood in the streets have not began to flow as yet. We are only witnessing scrtaches and bruises, the hemorrhaging has not yet begun.

This is NOT police bashing but when one of the most important institution's within a system which governs a vital aspect of said system is broken, then that system cannot function effectively. At times, stop gap methods will work temporarily, but when that part of the system is needed for the system to operate smoothly in the long term, then stop gap measures will NOT work.
We have been putting stop gap measures in place and they are having minimum effect in correcting the problems. Either the problems are too entrenched or they are of a nature that are too complicated to handle. Personally, I think, that it's both. The Force, being a brotherhood/sis terhood/lodge/c lub/gang has the same sense of loyalty as a family unit. In a family there are always fights and disagreements as seen from the outside, however, when anyone from the outside intervenes, all of the family will band together and fight the outsider(s), the force is no different; in contrast a family only answers to itself since it's only protecting personal interest, the Police Force(family) has the obligation to protect all other families around it and does not answer to itself....

What carjacking?

#1 Daughter of Klaas » 2012-07-09 06:30

The relevant insurance company may want to take a second look at this incident - talk to the Police Spokesperson. After all, who goes visiting a girlfriend around midnight parking his vehicle some distance away leaving his car keys in the ignition with window partially open. Seems like an open and shut case, to.
