Antigua St. John’s - Police and the Fire Department are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire that destroyed the home of a Herberts woman during the early hours of Tuesday.
It was reported that shortly after 12:30 am, fire tenders from St. Johns Fire Department were summoned to the scene where a 24x16 two-bedroom plywood structure, owned and occupied by 35-year-old Sharon Evans was engulfed by flames.
It was further reported that the woman, who was the sole occupant of the house at the time, went to sleep shortly after 8 pm on Monday, and was awakened around 12:30 am by a loud explosion that shook the house.
She then realised that the house was on fire and called for help. The fire tenders arrived shortly thereafter and extinguished the blaze; however, the house was completely destroyed. No one was injured in the incident.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, and lawmen are continuing their investigations into the matter.
In an unrelated matter, a 50-year-old father and his 25-year-old son, both of Freeman’s Village, were jointly arrested and charged by police for stealing electricity.
