Alleged Molester Remanded

Indicent assaultAntigua St John's - A 53-year-old man who sexually molested two teenaged boys was remanded to prison yesterday after the prosecution objected to him being granted bail.

The man appeared before Magistrate Veronica Thomas in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecution objected to bail on grounds that the society needs to be protected from the middle-aged man despite the charges being mere allegations at present, because of the nature of the offences and the age of the victims.

The two complainants are 17-year-old fourth form students of the same school and reside in neighbouring villages.

The man is charged with two counts of serious indecency and two counts of indecent assault.

It is alleged that the defendant met both teenagers almost a year apart.

He allegedly became acquainted with his first victim between July 1 and 31 last year, and told the teenager they could hang out.

Reports are that they subsequently met and the man offered to teach the teenager to drive. It is alleged that the teen drove the vehicle to several different locations and was then told to drive to Five Islands.

It was reportedly while on the way to Five Islands that the defendant told his victim to pull off the road. The teenager was allegedly shown a sex video while the man touched himself.

The man allegedly then grabbed the young man’s penis and tried to get him to take off his clothes and go further with the act, but the teen resisted.

Reports are that the 53-year-old later took the young man home and he (the victim) told his girlfriend and mother about the incident.

The police were not notified and reportedly found out about the incident when the second victim came forward.

Reports are that the other teen encountered the defendant several times in early April this year.

It is alleged that the middle-aged man promised to get the 17-year-old a job at Caribbean Cinemas.

On the day of the incident, the man telephoned his victim, who was at Heritage Quay with friends. He is alleged to have told the teen to call him for a ride.

Reports are that the man picked up the young man along with a female companion, who was dropped off in close proximity to the Villa area.

Allegations are the man took the teenager to Fort James and molested him.

It is alleged that the 17-year-old recorded the conversation. He too protested against the 53-year-old man’s advances.

The matter reportedly came to light after the school principal heard rumours and confronted the teen. The recording was reportedly played for the principal, who called the police.

Investigations were conducted; the man was arrested, and charges laid.

Observant -you need to be more observant or less of a trouble maker

#13 tenman » 2012-06-24 11:15

Observant, it was reported on 18 June 2012. Perhaps you missed it because they used the word journalist and not reporter.Of note it stated:
Quote:
In an unrelated matter A popular local journalist is facing the possibility of serving time in jail after being charged with Gross Indecency against a minor.

If found guilty under the Sexual Offences Act the journalist may be sentenced to serve up to five years in prison.

The latest reports are that the individual in question, after being held for a couple of days assisting the police with their investigations, was charged with the offence and granted station bail in the amount of $10,000.

Until a conviction is handed down the media is prohibited from revealing the name of any person charged with an offence under the Sexual Offences Act.

The name of the victim may not be revealed at any time, except by the express permission of the injured party

Plain & simple; if found guilty, a public flogging should be part of his sentence. Is he the Nation's Sandusky, the Penn State coach?

Audrey Taylor, my understanding (from reading the article) is this case is being prosecuted as a indecent assault and serious indecency. Its not a buggery charge. In addition the law defines a minor as being under 18. Yes certain acts define consent as possible if the victim is over 16. A serious indecency charge on a victim over the age of 16 could result in a term in prison of up to 5 years (for someone less than 16 it would be 10 years). Indecent assault carried the same 5 year max term. You can read more at (The Sexual Offences Act, 1995.) laws.gov.ag/acts/1995/a1995-9.pdf

Well we petitioning to get the buggery laws removed from our system if we are successful this case could be a matter of he said he said and may well be dismissed as lovers quarrel . Think about That???? the age of consent is 16 yrs is'nt it , be careful what you wish for.

I guarantee that there would be a significant reduction in this heinous act if we start castrating the perpetrators.

Menace to society

#6 Dig It » 2012-06-23 11:09

We should ALWAYS protect our young and the vulnerable from the "preditors" on this earth! Agreed with the Court for denying bail to this middle-age man, as he is clearly a "menace to society."

Legal inconsistency

#5 Time up » 2012-06-23 10:33

This predator has been remanded to prison because of the threat he poses to our children and society and I fully support the court's decision.
I am however not amused that a similar case of molestation against a "popular" individual last week was not so protective of our children and community. Let's see some consistency in the application of the law

School children revealed that this predator is a married man, and I do think he should be "feasting" on his wife and not these "young boys" . It is distasteful when these predators prey on "young girls" much less "young boys" (Shaking my head) It is a burning shame.....Jail him and throw wey de key.

I cannot imagine the first victim reported the incident to his parent and girlfriend and the police was not called. What is wrong with that parent? This could have perhaps saved the second victim. Men like this if convicted should be sent away for a looooooooog time. Is it 18:6 that is giving them the feeling that doing things like this is right?

#2 Vigilant Parent » 2012-06-23 08:45

These ppl are really crawling out of the woodwork. a guy with a truck offered to lend my son his vehicle. The same guy also offered my friend's son tickets to the movies. sounds familiar? Coincidence? I don't think so. Predators are targeting our youth. Fortunately, they never accepted the offers. Some random stranger making young guys these offers. Thank God they had the good sense to share with their parents and say no and save themselves the trauma. We should always encourage our children to talk about anything with their parents because we are her to guide.
