Antigua St John's - A 53-year-old man who sexually molested two teenaged boys was remanded to prison yesterday after the prosecution objected to him being granted bail.
The man appeared before Magistrate Veronica Thomas in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecution objected to bail on grounds that the society needs to be protected from the middle-aged man despite the charges being mere allegations at present, because of the nature of the offences and the age of the victims.
The two complainants are 17-year-old fourth form students of the same school and reside in neighbouring villages.
The man is charged with two counts of serious indecency and two counts of indecent assault.
It is alleged that the defendant met both teenagers almost a year apart.
He allegedly became acquainted with his first victim between July 1 and 31 last year, and told the teenager they could hang out.
Reports are that they subsequently met and the man offered to teach the teenager to drive. It is alleged that the teen drove the vehicle to several different locations and was then told to drive to Five Islands.
It was reportedly while on the way to Five Islands that the defendant told his victim to pull off the road. The teenager was allegedly shown a sex video while the man touched himself.
The man allegedly then grabbed the young man’s penis and tried to get him to take off his clothes and go further with the act, but the teen resisted.
Reports are that the 53-year-old later took the young man home and he (the victim) told his girlfriend and mother about the incident.
The police were not notified and reportedly found out about the incident when the second victim came forward.
Reports are that the other teen encountered the defendant several times in early April this year.
It is alleged that the middle-aged man promised to get the 17-year-old a job at Caribbean Cinemas.
On the day of the incident, the man telephoned his victim, who was at Heritage Quay with friends. He is alleged to have told the teen to call him for a ride.
Reports are that the man picked up the young man along with a female companion, who was dropped off in close proximity to the Villa area.
Allegations are the man took the teenager to Fort James and molested him.
It is alleged that the 17-year-old recorded the conversation. He too protested against the 53-year-old man’s advances.
The matter reportedly came to light after the school principal heard rumours and confronted the teen. The recording was reportedly played for the principal, who called the police.
Investigations were conducted; the man was arrested, and charges laid.

Legal inconsistency
I am however not amused that a similar case of molestation against a "popular" individual last week was not so protective of our children and community. Let's see some consistency in the application of the law
