Police Investigate Shooting Incident in Point

Police investigateAntigua St. John’s – The police are investigating a shooting incident in Point late Thursday night that left a 21-year-old man nursing a gunshot wound to his arm.

It is alleged that at around 9:50 pm, Shawn Josiah was walking home with friends when they heard what sounded like gunshots coming from a short distance behind them.

It was further reported that as the men ran for cover, Josiah was shot and wounded in the arm. He was taken to the hospital where it was determined that he sustained a single wound to his right arm, which was not life threatening.

No one else was injured in the incident. The police are continuing their investigations into the matter.

Ironically at the time of the shooting incident the police had engaged the residents of point and Villa communities in a town hall meeting at the Villa Government school, discussing a wave of shooting in those communities.

Meanwhile, the Royal Police Force of Antigua & Barbuda (RPFAB) is inviting suitably qualified persons between the ages of 18 and 35 years to join its ranks.

A release from the force’s Office of Strategic Communication (STRATCOM) outlined the list of requirements under which applicants would be deemed eligible for consideration.

Prospective recruits must be of good character, will be required to produce two character reference letters, and must possess a reasonable level of education. They will also be required to pass a Medical Examination, and a physical examination to indicate their level of fitness.

All applications must be addressed to the Commissioner of Police at Police Headquarters, American Road, Box 132, St. Johns, Antigua, no later than Wednesday 15th June, 2012.

No late applications will be accepted.

It seems odd to me that the police top gun is again on vacation . Is it forced vacation ? How often does he go on vacations . When ever a police top ranking office is using up so much vacation , in most cases is someone about to resign or have knowledge that the government firing boots is on and close to his or her **.

A "reasonable level of education"...ar e you serious? No wonder the criminals are running circles around our police force if all is required of those to fight crime is a "reasonable level of education". The police force needs more than just those that can manage the fitness tests, they must be able to have a higher lever of education. Maybe then we can fight crime in better way.

When crime go up you hire more police. When unemployment go up you do not create more employment.
