German Visitor Dies Suddenly

Police investigateAntigua St John's - The police are investigating the death of a 64 year-old visitor from Germany at the Mount St John's Medical Center.

The man had reportedly been helping a friend aboard a yacht docked at Falmouth Harbour just before 11 am when he took ill and collapsed, and fell into the water.

The Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue Team was called in, and the man was retrieved and subsequently rushed to the hospital by Search and Rescue personnel.

Doctors at the hospital reported that CPR was administered in an effort to revive him, but to no avail. He was pronounced dead at around 11:50 am.

The German had been in Antigua since Sunday, and was due to leave on Thursday.

The body has since been removed to the Barnes Funeral Home. A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

In an unrelated notice, the police have said that on Saturday, April 28, the portion of High Street between Temple Street and Corn Alley will be closed to the general public between 4 pm and midnight to facilitate the annual Carnival launch of the Dynamics Mas Troup

Poor writing

#7 Lionman » 2012-05-16 10:00

I think there should be some respect to the man as a human being and not just address the individual as "The German" Sometimes the grammar for this news website is very poor and elementary. Step up your grammar and choice of words. Remember whether the person is deceased or not they are still human and should addressed in the correct manner.

Lena, Thanks for the explanation. Now I understand what is going on. But you see, the writer assumes that everyone knows that MSJMC is not equipped to house dead bodies. One again, I appreciate your taking the time to clarify.

So if the morgue isn't equipped to store dead bodies, what to they keep there, the FSRC report?

The body is presently at Barnes Funeral Home awaiting the date for the post mortem. The Hospital's morgue is not yet fully equipped to store dead bodies, hence the reason to send them to the funeral home first. I do understand what you are saying, but for now that is the procedure. I hope my explanation is clear.

Lena, I thank you for your input. I do not believe that the answer to my question is no. But you have described the proper order and I concur.

If you read the statement very carefully you will see what I was referring to. I will try again. The article says (1) “The body has since been removed to the Barnes Funeral Home.” This indicates to me that the body is no longer at the hospital and that it is at the funeral home; and (2) “A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.” This indicates to me that a post mortem has not yet been conducted, although the body is at the funeral home.

Don’t get me wrong, but as I have said before your description is correct, but the writing may just be sloppy reporting. As It stands right now, I am confused because I do not know with any certitude, if the body is at the hospital awaiting a post mortem or it is at the funeral home and the post mortem has already been conducted and the cause of death has not been released.

If you can clarify, I would appreciate it

Germa Visitor Dies Suddenly

fnpsr. The answer to your question is, no. The statement is correct. A magistrate has to set the date for an inquest along with the police and jury and then the post mortem takes place at the lab at Holberton Hospital. After the post mortem and there is no evidence of foul play, the body is released to the family for final arrangements.

"The body has since been removed to the Barnes Funeral Home. A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death." Isn't this statement backwards? Shouldn't the autopsy be conducted at the hospital and upon completion released to the family and subsequently to the funeral home?
