Villa Man Shot in Drive-By

Villa Man Shot in Drive-ByAntigua St John's - A 20 year old shot in the leg on Sunday night was said to be resting comfortably in the hospital.

According to information from the police, Isaac Henry of Gordon Street, Villa, had been sitting with friends at a bar on Athill Street at around 10:15 pm on Sunday when three masked men drove up and opened fire.

Henry was wounded in the upper right thigh, and collapsed as he ran for cover in a neighbour’s yard. An ambulance took him to the hospital for emergency surgery.

Meanwhile, the police are also investigating an incident on the southern side of the island where a Turtle Bay couple was robbed by three masked men armed with knives and gun.

The home invasion took place shortly after 3 am on Saturday, while the couple was asleep.

The couple was reportedly awakened by a noise inside the house, and the glare of flashlights in their faces. They realised that three men were inside their house one armed with a gun while the other two had knives.

The residents were robbed of two pairs of diamond and sapphire earrings valued at $10,000, their Land Rover, and an undisclosed amount of money, before they were locked away in a room. The vehicle was later recovered at Falmouth Cricket Grounds.

One of the robbers was described as about 5'6" and slim, dressed in a cream jacket and black half-cut jeans. The other two were said to be about 6 ft, also slim, and dressed in dark clothing.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Dockyard Police Station at 460-1002 or call Crime Stoppers at 800-Tips (8477).

...hind sight...

#5 Jumbee Picknee » 2012-04-24 13:58

Greetings folks, in hind sight, there were many of us in the 1980's, 1990's who saw, and interpreted the signs that our Nation was going to become what it is today, in terms of this kind of brazen, wanton and vicious behavior. I happen to have spent the latter part of the 1980's and early 1990's living in that same neighborhood, I returned again from 2002 - 2005 and as I spoke to individuals, groups, etc, they said, "bouy, a crazy u crazy, de gang dat dem a try fu bring ya, nar go work ya, Antigua too small fu dem kind a subben dey. R U tink, cause r u lib de a foreign, dat r u kno ebrie ting"...I would usually smile, walk away, saying to myself, when this seed burst, grows and flourishes, it will be hell to curtail it. SO SAID SO DONE, IT WILL BE HELL TO CURTAIL THIS, and don't forget, the generation which were born from 2000, it will be easier to bite into a "peggy-mouth" pepper that to try and face these youths, unless you carry their equalizer, the UZIE-MAC....

My advice to anybody, as long as you can afford it, get at least 3 dogs (preferably rottweilers) in your yard. Look after them, treat them well, make them loyal to you, and you can sleep with your doors open, these criminals are cowards and as soon as they see these dogs they wont bother with you...It is sad that it has come to this, but otherwise you will no longer feel safe the way Antigua is headed.

INSIDE JOB

#3 The Godfather » 2012-04-24 09:26

The robbers knew the value that was wit in the house, they obviously knew the couple valuable personal effects, my **sment, this is an inside job. There is someone who frequents this property, knows the couple personally and setsnup the take down. A warning, no the people employ, do background checks, set up hidden cameras they are unaware of, and monitor your home even though you are not there.

Another, set traps, there are many ways that can be done, the robber will never know he will be a corpse within seconds. From that time on, rest comfortably. But start the investigation from within!

REVIEW THE ROADS

#2 The Godfather » 2012-04-24 09:14

Gun violence is now part of Antigua culture, differences are now solved by drive-by, someone knows the genesis of this incident, and if the victim was a family I would deliver my own justice.

A suggestion to the policy makers, Antigua has many streets with too much diversion, and there is no need to rethink planning and strategy. Now, there are many alternative road routes for criminals to use, and itnis time much of the traffic is directed along one way routes.

If that is done, there should be no more than two points, and cameras strategic placed at each turn. The police will have to review the road maps and limit the criminal get-away within their area of control. There are many streets in Grays Farm, Point, Villa that could be one way, with strategic intersection, and ultimately forcing the offenders onto New Gate Street or Geen Bay Police Station!

Bring Justice

We shouldn't project too much, but these robbers seem to be similar to those in the robbery incident at Willoughby Bay.It seems they're targeting wealthier communities or more affluent homes based upon what they stole and the areas they chose.Though it is quite weird in the Willoughby Bay Incident how the robbers waited for the woman to come back from her office to rob her. These robbers are quite dimwitted though for robbing while there are people in their homes and cowards nonetheless.

Also, do the police have the capacity to take fingerprints from the Land Rover?

These crimes happening affect everyone; from locals to non-residents to the occasional tourist. If areas on the island are being perceived as non-safe, such as the English Harbor area which is usually deemed safe and experiences a high volume of people due to the Dockyard and Yacht season and supplies many jobs due to this, then the island is going to hurt greatly, financially and socially. These people have to be caught as soon as possible and there needs to be better prevention on the island to avoid these ridiculous crimes to protect everyone on the island.
