ONDCP Reports Marijuana Bust

Antigua St John's - A counter drug operation conducted by the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) resulted in the seizure of cannabis with a combined weight of over 350 lbs and an estimated street value of about $715,220.

The ONDCP received information on Tuesday that a vessel had arrived from a nearby Caribbean island with the illicit cargo. A land operation was conducted on the southern end of the island, and resulted in the illegal drugs being found.

A 25 year old male from Potters is assisting the ONDCP with its investigation, and has been charged with the following: drug trafficking; possession of cannabis with intent to transfer; possession of cannabis; being concerned in the supply of cannabis; and importation.

 
This followed another large seizure of over 275 lbs of cannabis in an operation conducted last month. These recent counter-narcotics successes by the ONDCP have resulted in the removal of over 625 lbs of cannabis with a street value of over $1.25 M.
 
A release from the ONDCP said it remains vigilant in its effort to significantly reduce the availability of illegal narcotics to citizens and residents of Antigua & Barbuda.

It said, "The director once again recognizes the determination, courage, and professionalism of the women and men of the ONDCP in their efforts to realise a drug-free Antigua & Barbuda."
