Police Investigate Report of Attempted Arson

Police investigateAntigua St John's - The police are investigating an attempted arson at a Potters home, and the wounding of a 16-year-old boy.

The incident allegedly took place at about 3am on Thursday, when the teen was awoken by the smell of smoke inside the house, and alerted the rest of his household.

The youth and his younger sibling went outside to investigate the origin, but while re-entering the house, was confronted by a man armed with a cutlass.

The teen was wounded in the forehead, right shin, and left thumb. He also sustained injuries to his back as a result of being broadsided by the cutlass.

He was taken to the Mount St John's Medical Center, where he was treated and admitted. Doctors however said the injuries were not life threatening.

No one else was injured, and no serious damage was done to the house. The intruder was described as about 5'10", wearing a dark pair of shorts, a light-coloured T-shirt, and a white T-shirt concealing his face.

The police appealed to anyone with information to contact the nearest police station or call Crime Stoppers at 800-Tips (8477).

Meanwhile, the police arrested and charged 20-year-old Robert Gordon of Cashew Hill with robbery and larceny.

The Cashew Hill resident is alleged to have robbed a 17-year-old student of the Antigua Grammar School of his Blackberry Bold 8520 cell phone valued at $600, and $13 in cash, while walking to school on Wednesday.

Similar charges were also levelled against the accused for allegedly robbing a Five Island youth of his cellular phone and $20 on March 13, and a 76-year-old Gray's Farm man of his black Coral 285 cell phone valued at $95, and a cell phone valued at $30 on March 15.

He was also charged with giving a false name to the police. All offences allegedly took place at the Botanical Gardens.
