DPP Never Forwarded Lindquist Report

E-mail

DPP Never Forwarded Lindquist ReportDirector of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Anthony Armstrong never received the Bob Lindquist report, neither did he pass it on to Police Commissioner Thomas Bennett.

This is the latest revelation in what has been a trail of twists and turns in Caribarena.com’s efforts to locate the report into the IHI debt settlement matter.

Armstrong relayed a message through a member of his staff yesterday following our attempts to speak to him. He said he did not dispatch any such report to the police high command.

Speaking from St Lucia, Commissioner Bennett said it was during a meeting in 2008 that he was given the opportunity to view the document. Even though he could not recall everyone present, he said the DPP was not there.

He remembered, however, that former justice minister Collin Derrick attended, as did Lindquist.

According to an expert police source, the police should have received the report strictly from the DPP, along with the appropriate direction, if necessary, to pursue relevant investigations.

Bennett had told Caribarena.com that to the best of his knowledge, the report was in the hands of a four-member team of police investigators. But a senior member of the team, Inspector Everton Jeffers, subsequently said he has never seen the document.

A Daily Observer story on Tuesday said a special resolution on the Lindquist report will be tabled at a UPP convention to be held next weekend.

When contacted, PRO of the party Winston Henry said he did not know where the Lindquist report is, and further dismissed as ridiculous the idea of the party pushing a resolution for the report to be handed over to the DPP, since “it has nothing to do with party politics, nothing to do with party, so it cannot be on a party agenda.”

“What I am saying to you is that I am not aware that the (Lindquist report) is with the DPP," Henry told Caribarena.com Tuesday night. "I can’t say exactly where it is. I really do not know, so I cannot make any comment as to where it is, but what I can say is that it should not come up as a resolution at a party convention."

He said if such a resolution were allowed to go through, it would have the effect of the party overriding the executive arm of the government on a national issue.

While we wonder about where the report may be, the bigger worry for me is the apparent political interference in the system. The DPP should be the one to turn a matter over to the police for investigation. Why was Colin Derrick meeting with Commissioner Bennett to discuss the report? This could possibly explain the political interference that the former commissioners spoke of. Given the illegal handling of the report and the apparent political interference, I wonder if the incompetent UPP regime has actually damaged the case on which their political future hangs.

Please remind me: Why should a "country" this disorganized, corrupt and incompetent be allowed to issue pa*sports, regulate international banks and vote in the UN?

Surly this failed attempt at a micro-state should be considered a failure, and the British held accountable for their irresponsibility in letting it happen in the first place.

With all this doubt and cofusion about the report, why isn't the powers to be making any statements to appease their citizens concerns over an important issue that their tax dollars paid for?. Rappaport returned millions of dollars in order to be excluded from the fiasco, that tells me that something wrong had transpired or els he woul'd have..Where is the integrity of your leaders and why has it taken so long to address it ?. How many local regular persons have been brought to justice for offences commited long after this?. BIG SHOTS ARE UNTOUCHABLE.

written by Volunteer 2, March 10, 2010
I will help look also. This is the most outrageous episode in the 6 yr old saga of Unproductive, Pathetic, People. Am I to believe that Mr. Lindquist didnt prepare his report using MS word where another copy can be provided to the People of Antigua for review? smilies/grin.gif
Going to a convention to discuss Government Business? Are the members of UPP expected to be taken serious. Do they feel the members of the voting public have lost all their marbles?

How is it that the Commissioner of Police could have seen the report before the DPP? Something is rotten in the state of Denmark and stinks here in Antigua. I can see lawyers having a field day in court over the chain of custody and that meeting between Linquist, Derrick and the Commissioner.
Under UPP, even justice is upside-down.

time for Bennet to resign
written by fnpsr, March 10, 2010
Please pay attention to what Bennett is saying. According to the reporter, Bennett said that he received the report and gave it to his subordinates for investigation. Now he is saying that he was given an opportunity to view the report. It appears to me that Bennett cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. Viewing a report and receiving are two distinct things. Which one is it?

Bennett could not get away with such sloppy police work in Canada, and he should not be allowed to get away with it in Antigua. Bennett should have the

The reporter should contact Lindquist and confirm to whom was the report given and follow the chain of custody. He should also be able to get a copy from Lindquist. If Lindquist refuses to give up the report, then he should be able to go to court to force Lindquist to give up the report.

written by Caribfan, March 10, 2010
Focus on the story writer and try not to show your bias. If the report was never received, then it cannot be forwarded, so please review your first paragraph.

That being said it's just a different day with the same crap. Looking forward to better news in this matter is simply false hope for us all.

Have a nice day.

If this wasn't so serious, it would be laughable. Can there possibly be a more incompetent bunch than the so-called leaders of A&B? These guys should be the poster boys for ineptitude.

I am beginning to wonder who is lying, and for what reason. Earlier this week, or late last week, the police commissioner admitted that he had a copy of the report. Now, all of a sudden, nobody is owning up to having the report. This is like sending the fools a little further.

Oh really, Winston
written by Winston is a liar, March 10, 2010
Winston Henry is so far out of the UPP loop. When was the last time anyone heard him rubbing his gum on anything. Justice should be outside the purview of t he party, but the formed a committee during the first term. Segments of the party have agitated for justice to be served. Doltish Winston is the only person who doesn't know he's doltish. Poor him

Volunteering to find report.
written by Avid Reader, March 10, 2010
I am volunteering because I don't get it. How does such a report get lost and have they ever heard of request another copy because I am sure that Lindquist can put his hand on it. I am always befuddled when I read these stories, even emails from all government ministers should be saved and preserved.

we paid for it, we want it and we want it now.
so where do i sign up..
suggestion as we start looking for this teport lets also take a look at the financial status of those we have elected in UPP over the last 6 years.
my initial information says that all UPP ministers are now millionaires
and PM Spencer has now entered the hotel business in Guyana together with the Doc Cort.
While we are at it can we investigate what is the status of the parking complex that we paid good money for. What is the deal with that?
Make public the agreement between American hospital organization and the government regarding MSJ and our MBS money?
