Caricom Heads Meet with PM

Antigua St John's - Members of the Bureau of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Monday held discussions on Monday with Prime Minister of Antigua & Barbuda Baldwin Spencer before leaving on a two-day mission to Haiti.

The meeting, held between President of Suriname and Chairman of CARICOM His Excellency Desire Bouterse, St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas, Deputy Prime Minister of St Lucia Philip Pierre, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Suriname Winston Lackin, Secretary General of CARICOM Irwin LaRocque, and Prime Minister Spencer centred on the possible outcome of the mission to Haiti.

According to Prime Minister Spencer, the Bureau of Heads, during their meeting with Haitian President Michel Martelly, will reaffirm CARICOM’s commitment to Haiti, discuss ways in which CARICOM can contribute to the development of the public sector in Haiti, and examine ways of further cooperation.

“The purpose of the visit is to engage with the Government of Haiti with respect to its priorities which would assist in determining the nature of assistance required of the Community to that Member State.

During the visit to Haiti, the CARICOM officials will also meet with Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille and members of the Haitian cabinet along with members of parliament, the media and the private sector.   The Bureau Heads were in-transit in Antigua on their way to Haiti.
