This event needs to be a wake up call for all airports in the region. The international media is reporting that no emergency crew appeared until 30 minutes after the crash. The UK dailymail reports (see www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2020504/Caribbean-Airlines-crash-Guyana-163-escape-plane-snapped-2.html):
Geeta Ramsingh, 41, from Philadelphia, was one of the injured passengers. She was returning home to her native country for only the second time in 30 years.
She said that passengers had just started to applaud the jet's touchdown when it 'turned to screams'.
She escaped the craft by hopping on to the wing and and then on to the dirt track outside the runway fence.
She said: 'I am upset that no one came to rescue us in the dark, but a taxi driver appeared from nowhere and charged me $20 to take me to the terminal.
'I had to pay, but in times of emergencies, you don't charge people for a ride.'

God has been so merciful to those passengers. I am so happy that ther was not any death. The relevant authorities of guyana needs to do something about the lighting system on the airport runwaya.

I hope that everything that has been lacking at this airport is fixed. There are some airports that are closed when the weather is not ideal. I am sure that there are some unsung heroes but the bad elements will always be high lighted.. That awful taxi driver. I still love my CARIBBEAN AIRLINES. GOD BLESS.

Good to hear no deaths and my hope is that the injured will heal quickly. Hopefully an investigation will reveal whatever preventable things, if any, can be done to reduce the risk of a re-occurrence.

Thank goodness they were no fatalities in this crash. And, I really mean it because this airline barely missed a ravine right next the airport. I heard the weather played a factor but hopefully the investigation will tell us more. Yet, the airport needs to have proper emergency evacuation field lights and other emergency equipment in place. That is totally unacceptable!
