Individuals in our fair land do not take proper care of their pets, we have such a problem with stray animals. There are two dogs that come on the property everyday to take their nap and look for what I do not know. A lot of people think they belong to us but in fact belong to the name who has at least five more dogs. How can the accurately tell the animal owners when they are left to roam as they please. The goat and the sheep that make our property their afternoon retreat is another big problem, and I cannot forget the donkey that stroll along at night. Will these owners own up to their property or will I have to spend money and fight in court just to prove they do not belong to me. So how will they be able to truly collect on the pet taxes?

Skyewill we already pay taxes on dogs. There is a $50.00 yearly fee for each dog. I will add that I wish the transport board was run like the persons who manage the dog licensing because at least a month before the fee is due I receive either a phone call or an email reminding me of the due date. The persons there are so customer friendly that I find myself thinking of taking their option to pay in advance for 3 years, even though they offer no discount.

Finally, they have aligned the tax rate for all goods and services in this country and everyone regardless of citizen or visitor will pay their fair share. The UK and US tourists are used to paying taxes so they will be fine.

Well we had so much to say when England implemented a tax on overseas travel and found it unfair. Now what will we tell them. I sometimes really wonder who is advising who. I cannot be that 10,000 frenchmen are seeing things wrong. Will this not kill the already fragile tourist market we have. So why was John paying tourist from England to come here? Grow the economy that's how you increase revenue. And if you need ideas how to grow it, just ask us the people. We have lots of ideas. Some might be very good.

No doubt, this was done by our air-brained, empty-cell Minister of Tourism who, we all know, is one of the fooly ones running this country.
Who would consider raising prices at a time when everybody is feeling the pinch? Only the bunch of idiots who run this country.
Already, the hotels are struggling and they are planning to raise the ABST tax.
FYI: Probably (like the Chinese) Butch from Sandals will not be affected.
And to think that I voted for them! :eek:

Shouldn't the government be offering tax cut to the business community so that the economy can start an upward turm. My lord isn't there any economist living in Antigua to instruct this government. Now all the hotels are going to move to other islands. Antiguans i pray that r u get off of r u high horses and start protesting on the street of St. John's peacefully even the police officers.

it is IMF running the country. We need to go back to the poles. The UPP's mandate is no longer legitimate. when Lester Bird said that they were going to the IMF they called him a liar; They even published a press statement from the IMF boss to support their claim. Six months later they were talking up the deal without remorse and we just sat back and took it.

This is the wrong approach in these fiscally tight circumstances. Lovell you are driving the economy to the ground. You need to be lowering taxes not raising them. Don't you understand that it all boils down to microeconomics? Listern to Dr. Isaac Newton please. Read his articles. Listen to the Scarlett Pimpernel read his ideas. Listen, Lovell, Listen. You are killing the only hen that produces the golden egg! How is this helping the hoteliers?

While I understand the governments need to raise money through taxes and the inequality of the hotels only paying 10.5% I can't help but think the timing of this is wrong.

The hotels by their own admission have had to lower prices to attract tourists, if they now have to pay higher taxes at a time when profits are down it could drive some out of business.

I think the government need to realise there comes a point in raising taxes where you hit diminishing returns because you stifle the economy.

The Minister of Tourism, recently met with the hoteliers, you think he knew then about this plan to increase the ABST rate?

He seemingly didn't know about the hospitality school, i ain't hear he say anything about the Beaches/vendors /closing off Long Bay, issues. And he ain't saying nothing yet about this ABST increase to his sector.

Mr. PM please advise on the job description for the Minister of Tourism.

Under the proposed changes, the government intends to amend the rate that hoteliers pay into its coffers - from the current 10.5 percent to the 15 percent paid by all other sectors.

Talk about taking from the hand that feeds us. Unilaterally profiting
from the People (UPP), and they don't care who suffering.

I wonder if Butch going still bring Beaches, now that he got to pay the higher rate? Somebody better tell him.
