The police force continues to make headway in solving violent crimes. Their latest success is laying charges against the culprits of three homicides that occurred in 2008.
Over the weekend, the police charged Avie Howell of Golden Grove and Kaniel Martin of Tindale Road with the murders of Tony Louisa, Rafique Kareem Harris and Juanita Anderson Walker. The victims were 46, 24 and 43, respectively, at their untimely deaths.
Louisa’s body was discovered face down in a pool of blood, with a single gunshot wound to his head, on June 18th at his Radio Range home. The unrelated deaths of Walker (July 12), formerly of Browne’s Avenue and Harris (August 8), formerly of Martin’s Village are said to be robberies gone wrong.
Contributing to the laying of charges in these cases was forensic evidence presented to the prosecutors that came as a result of the partnership of local and the British Metropolitan Police. The latter body provided the forensic evidence, thus allowing the local police to extend their search of suspects.
Thomas Bennett, the acting Commissioner of Police, lauded the combined efforts of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Homicide Squad in bringing some measure of closure to these cases. While the head of the CID, Jacques Ouellette, promised continued vigilance and determination when working on cold cases in hopes of reaping similar rewards.
However, all bodies within the Police Department have stressed, that they need the ongoing support of the public for all investigations.
