A 35-year-old woman was raped at gunpoint by a masked man early Saturday morning, a short distance from where Dominican national Steve Mingo was murdered.
The police, due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, are limiting the information being released to the public.
They have, however, disclosed that shortly after 6 am, the woman had been walking along Federation Road, Grays Farm, when she was accosted from behind by her attacker.
While the assailant was masked, the police say he is around 5'5" tall, dark in complexion and of medium build.
The police are appealing to the public for any information on the incident.
They are also asking all persons, particularly lone females, to be wary when walking the streets, and to always be conscious of their surroundings.
Residents of Grays Farm, Golden Grove and adjacent communities had been tormented by what was ultimately dubbed a serial rapist from late 2007 to 2008.
There was a lull in the attacks – which had been occurring almost weekly – as the police were focusing on several suspects.
However, to date, no official word has been forthcoming from the police as to whether any of the suspects detained for questioning were charged in connection with any of the rapes or similar offenses.
