The nation's customs officers will officially report to a new boss today. Cortwright Ambrose has been named acting comptroller of customs as Raphael Browne, the previous head, goes on retirement leave.
Ambrose said he's looking forward to the challenges ahead, and promised to be more efficient to serve the people.
"Under the Customs Renewal process, clearing goods at the Port Authority should be done within 24 hours, and we will ensure that measures will be put in place so the division can meet thepublic's expectation," he said.The previous comptroller of customs was due to retire in 2007, however, Cabinet decided to extend Browne's term until the end of 2008, Finance Minister Dr Errol Cort explained.
He thanked Browne for his years of indelible service and commended him for always ensuring that government funds were collected.
