APUA Tight-lipped on New Electricity Manager

APUA Tight-lipped on New Electricity ManagerAntigua St. John's - The Antigua Public Utilities Authority has reportedly hired a new Electricity Transmission and Distribution manager, with an official appointment due to be made soon, according to reports.

In the meantime, acting manager Andre Mathias remains on active duty in the post.

Public Relations Manager Cathrona Samuel said she could not confirm the appointment, as those directives had not yet been handed down by the executive.

“Only the board of directors is authorized to speak (and) they have not made a statement, so I can’t do so officially,” Samuel said.

Mathias was appointed to the post from January 1 – 31, while the utilities company sought a “suitable” replacement for Lyndon Francis, whose contract was not renewed.

APUA General Manager Esworth Martin said he would neither deny nor confirm that a selection had been made.

He would only say that the “appropriate” person would “soon” make the announcement.

Attempts to obtain a comment from chairman of the APUA Board of Directors Clarvis Joseph were unsuccessful.

That is not a lot of money for an electrical power plant manager. If this person has a degree in electrical engineering. He would be paid much more than $6,000.00 US per month in the USA.I would agree with you that Antiguans who are qualified for such a position. They should have first preference for those positions. Those jobs are like national security positions. This is not a UPP thing. It has been going on back in the days when ALP were in office.Hiring foreigners to fill high paying positions in government is nothing new.In Antigua it was and still is foreigners first.Antiguans you need to stop being passive and get out of your shells and take your country back.Take it back from the government and more so the foreigners.

lets be honest - energy sector

Lets see what obtains in Trinidad in the energy sector as of 2008:
Quote:
Persons working in the energy sector are paid two to four times more than their counterparts in other sectors... Heads of technical departments in oil and gas companies, according to a 2007-2008 compensation report, earn an average of $41,000 a month, while top executives earn at least $80,000... http://www.newsday.co.tt/sport/0,89379.html

Baldwin Spencer boasts about the nuber of scholarships his government provides, yet every job is given to an expatriate. If the salary I am hearing this guy will receive, EC$16,000 plus all the add ons, then this is crazy. That6 is US$5926.00 or TT$37000.00 per month. There is no where he would be making that in his homeland. Welcome to paradise and to the land where under the UPP, people first means Trinidadians. Join the list of the airport manager, LIAT and the rest. Under the UPP, with all the scholarships awarded, and all the education gained, Antiguans will remain hewers of wood and carriers of water. No wonder the others think we are fool fool.

If someone is acting manager and you are looking for a manager why not give that person the manager position since it's obvious they are familiar with the position. There are too much acting positions in Antigua. It's a land of actors it's worst then Hollywood.
