Mansoor Offers Apology

Mansoor Offers ApologyAntigua St. John's - Technology Minister Dr Edmond Mansoor has apologised to members of the Bird family for comments many felt were disrespectful to the late Father of the Nation, Sir VC Bird Sr.

Dr Mansoor’s mea culpa came this week during an appearance on the Bird family-owned ZDK Radio to promote the government’s latest technology initiative, GATE.

He said he took the words from the UPP’s 2004 election manifesto and that he meant no harm to the Bird family.

“I believe they were taken out of context. I did not mean any disrespect to anybody,” he said. “I have since apologised on another media outlet for my remarks, and I again take this opportunity to apologise to the Bird family and to all of those people who were offended by that. In hindsight, if I knew that this would trigger such public disquiet, I would not have used those words. So without reservation, I apologise to the distinguished Father of the Nation’s family.”

Mansoor noted that he has very good relations with some members of the Bird family, including acting ZDK general manager Sean Bird. He said he regretted making the incendiary remarks.

The minister caused a firestorm among the Antigua Labour Party faithful when he opined that had the media in Antigua & Barbuda been free, the Birds would have been consigned to the dustbin of history. Many felt that the remarks sought to belittle the contributions of VC Bird Sr, a national hero.

How long ago did Mr. Mansoor make this demeaning statement? Wasn't there a great public outcry from individuals from every corner of our society? Eventhough he may have taken the quote from the UPP manifesto he took ownership when he repeated those offending words. I therefore consider his apology at this time to be opportunistic and far from sincere. I am therefore left to wonder whether or not he percieved that the political pendelum has shifted and like a cat wants to ensure that he lands on his feet on the side of the tilt.

You people are so nearsighted. What in essence Mansoor has done by apologizing is to appease the g**root ALP supporters, who by the way do not support Gaston. So what he has done is to demonstrate that a known opposition can apologise for making bad comments about the Birds however look at the disgrace the ALP has caused on itself with the way it treated Lester to unseat him. Ponder on that you jokers - nearsighted labourites start the thumbs down now! predictable jokers.

Words have moving power...don't let arrogance be your guide!

#17 Dig It » 2013-01-31 21:22

I am always told that "don't let arrogance get the best of you, and always be humble, regardless how far you get in life, or how successful you become." Unfortunately, many of our leaders and politicans have a 'chip-on-their- shoulder,' and, once they get elected or serve as a 'non-elected' in government, many of them forget who put them there. The People! Yes, no one is 'perfect' but at the same time when you serve the people, your 'words-and-acti ons' are ALWAYS under the 'microscope' than the average citizens. Dr Mongoose's apology may be 'forgiven' by some but not 'forgotten' by many! My friends, there is a continuous pattern of 'repeat-of-hist ory' in our small state, and, our politician and those aspiring politicians are still yet to 'live-and-learn .' Is the the Senator really using the promotion of GATE on the station as an opportunity to 'xx xx xx,' or doing the 'xxxx xxxx' of those in the Sunshine? :-* :-? :-*

J'accuse! ... The Manifesto! PT2

#16 John French II » 2013-01-31 15:30

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock! For the last week, this mere voice in the wilderness has been suggesting that GoAB engage our Arab Compatriots in the Art Of Saving Face. Not only is it an important ingredient to our behaviours & attitudes but moreso in GeoPolitics. It is of the utmost import that we the 95% of African Descent understand the cultures of "Strangers in a Strange Land - Exodus 2:22". Some will posit that it takes more than three generations to fully comprehend & be immersed in the society so much so that Quote:
All of us who are worth anything, spend our manhood in unlearning the follies, or expiating the mistakes of our youth. Percy Bysshe Shelley
Insensitivity should not be a Hallmark of anyone appointed to serve the People. Let me end with few snippets:
Quote:
Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
Never hate your enemies, it affects your judgment.
Never get angry. Never make a threat. Reason with People.
Accidents don't happen to people who take accidents as a personal insult.
Many young men started down a false path to their true destiny. Time and fortune usually set them right. - The Godfather.
Oh Gad!

J'accuse! ... The Manifesto!

#15 John French II » 2013-01-31 14:54

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock! It has been said that "to err is human, to forgive is divine". Quote:
I will give you a definition of a proud man: he is a man who has neither vanity nor wisdom, one filled with hatreds cannot be vain, neither can he be wise. John Keats.
Did the Good Hon Senator aid in crafting the Manifesto's language or is "The Universe Unfolding as It should"? Quote:
A multitude of causes unknown to former times are now acting with a combined force to blunt the discriminating powers of the mind, and unfitting it for all voluntary exertion to reduce it to a state of almost savage torpor. William Wordsworth
Politicians rip & tear but It is well known amongst Our Arab Traders that Quote:
No man ever got very high by pulling other people down. The Intelligent merchant does not knock his competitors. ... Don't knock your friends, Don't knock your enemies. Don't knock yourself. Guard your roving thoughts with a jealous care, for speech is but the dialer of thoughts, and every fool can plainly read in your words what is the hour of your thoughts Alfred Lord Tennyson.

wow! So all that had to happen was for the PM to strip Mansoor of certain portfolios and now he is Pa Humble? Very nice. If Nebuchadnezzar could be humbled, then there is hope for anyone.

History Helps Us Understand Change and How the Society We Live in Came to be.
The past causes the present, and so the future. Any time we try to know why something happened—whethe r a shift in political party dominance we have to look for factors that took shape earlier. Sometimes fairly recent history will suffice to explain a major development, but often we need to look further back to identify the causes of change. Only through studying history can we grasp how things change; only through history can we begin to comprehend the factors that cause change; and only through history can we understand what elements of an institution or a society persist despite change."
History does not belong in the Dustbin it makes us who we are. Mansoor made a unifromed statement, he apologised enough said

After all the hubris, he crawls tail between his legs to beg pardon from a discredited collection red Birds? They need to send this joker back from whence he came. The Birds and their non-electricity paying roach station are irrelevant. With the ascendancy of Gaston, they’ll have to strive by merit, and not the accident of their birth.

The statement made by Mansoor is written in the UPP 2004 manifesto on page 40. He only repeated what was written. Its always good when persons do not feel they are not to big to apologize. I suspect that the Senator recognizes that time is running out and he has to repair some of the damage he has caused. Some may not realize this but senior persons have started to a abandon the UPP ship

Mansoor is an educated dunce who has not handled power well. After all these years he choose to apologized? I believe things in the party is not going his way. Everyone knows he is arrogant and full of himself. He was the Minister of Broadcasting and Communication for many years and instead of improving the product he went out and formed his own production Company called New-Media to try and make ABS look bad. Read the Government website and see the ** New-Media produces with Government funding--pure propaganda. Mansoor Chuuups we don't want your apology you disrespected the greatest politician this Country has produce a black man as that. And your contribution 0. I hope the ALP investigate your relationship with Digicel, and all the monies spent of tablets to see xxt xxxk-xxxs when they assume power next year.

Apologies Accepted

#8 THINKING BIG » 2013-01-31 09:32

Folks hindsight is 2020. Dr. Mansoor has manfully apologised. Let's accept his public confessions as a sincere attempt to make amends. Who amongst us is free from mistakes or wrongdoings? Pls let's not read any sinister motives in his apology. It was an inappropriate and he acknowledges it. Move on. Lessons for Dr. Mansoor, think before u speak not just of consequences but of facts as well.

007, I totally agree with you. This is no apology. Mansoor is not sorry for what he said, but for the disquiet it caused, He is also saying that he would not have used those words. I guess he would have said the same thing; just saying it differently. What hypocracy. Then to suggest that your words were taken out of context, what garbage? You said what you meant and meant what you said one hundred percent.

For the good Dr. let me put this in a spiritual sense. One of my favourite authors puts it this way. " True repentence involves remorse for sin and forsaking it". There is absolutely no remore in Dr. Mansoor's statement and it is clear he would do it again--just differently.

"Genuine repentence springs from a sense of the offensive character of sin. These general confessions are not the fruit of true humiliation of soul before God". Dr. Mansoor, I know spiritual things are spiritually deserned, but I pray God you understand and truly humble yourself and apologise to this nation.
