Antigua St. John’s - Minister of Labour Hon. Dr. Errol Cort has confirmed reports of ongoing talks with the Antigua Trade Union Congress regarding pressing concerns of tardiness in the department of labour with regards to the processing of matters brought before it.
Speaking with Caribarena on Monday, the labour minister said there are several issues that must be considered at this time with regards to charges being brought against certain establishments by labour unions.
Dr. Cort, who is currently off-island, said he plans to address the matter of tardiness in the department upon his return to the island shortly.
He said the issue of processing claims and allowing them to get to the industrial court, if necessary, for a timely hearing is something of notable concern and one that indeed sits on the forefront of his desk.
“I have had a very useful meeting with the Trade Union Congress discussing those issues and trying to find an amicable approach in resolving these matters,” he told Caribarena.
