Antigua St John's - Motorists and pedestrians travelling along Factory Road in the vicinity of the Government Workshop are questioning the sudden accumulation of what appears to be scrap metal from derelict vehicles in that area.
With the recent surge in the scrap metal trade, calls are being made for the authorities to quickly look into the reason behind the unsightly build-up of these salvaged metals in the area, and to guard against the start of another trade there.
One woman said: “The (siting) of that area so close to the highway looks terrible; it looks bad… and this is a popular route where a lot of our visitors pass to go to various hotels, I don’t understand this, where is our pride?”
Caribarena.com made contact with the Environment Division and the National Solid Waste Management Authority to see if they could shed any light on this latest development. But the news portal was directed to the Central Board of Health; however efforts to reach Chief Health Inspector Lionel Michael proved futile.
