Young Mother Dies Suddenly

MSJMCAntigua St John's - The family of a young woman who recently died after giving birth at the Mount St John’s Medical Center (MSJMC) is demanding answers.

Kenisha Bright, 20, died on Tuesday morning, about a week after she was discharged from the facility reportedly complaining of stomach pains and breathing troubles.

The Jennings resident died suddenly, and the family is demanding that whoever is responsible be held accountable.

MSJMC PRO Salma Crump told Caribarena on Tuesday, "I’m not in a position to say anything. For me to say anything I would be breaching confidentiality.”
She said she had no knowledge of the particular incident.

Meanwhile, Corporal Frankie Thomas of the Office of Strategic Communications, said the family can rest assured that Bright’s death would be investigated, and a post mortem examination would be carried out, as is the case in any suspicious and unnatural death.

He said, “... if the case is one where a person dies in a way other than natural causes, it takes priority.”

To - "Nurse"

#25 Embarrassed for you » 2012-04-05 20:23

Madam Nurse, I'm not trying to humiliate you, but before you announce to everyone in this forum that you are a nurse, and have been for 15 years; and are criticizing the lack of care to "patients" (not patience), please make sure that your words are correctly spelled and used in the proper context.

One could say that it's because of nurses like you why patients are not receiving adequate care. If you really are a nurse, how in the world did you misspell the word "patients"? There are other typos in your message as well, but if you don't know then there is no sense in pointing them out to you. I am truly sorry for this, but you proudly mentioned that you are a nurse.

Something is certainly wrong

#24 NURSE » 2012-04-05 15:12

As a Nurse with over fifteen years experience both in hospital and the Community clinics I have see situations where proper care is not taken.
I can recall that some time ago when my niece delivered there was a situation where she developed sepsis (there was afterbirth that was left back to put it simple).
There are some nurses who certainly do any old thing not caring until a situation arises.
There are also others who are dedicated and that profession is certainly there calling.
But again a lot of things are kept under wraps that happens in MSJMC.
Truth be told its a sad situation that when patience makes complaints that sometimes they are looked upon as anxiety attacks when you cant breath or your just paranoid when you say your certainly not feeling well.
Of course I should know because at the end of the day my question is,who is responsible?

Shame

#23 Lionman » 2012-04-05 12:26

My condolence to the family. T
here are some harsh, inhumane, and careless comments about the loss of this human life. No one who is discharged from the hospital after giving birth dies unexpectedly. We all know the medical service in the Caribbean is poor and that is something no one can doubt or oppose. It is a shame that many people who do not have the means to travel for professional and better care have to deal with the poor medical expertise in Caribbean hospitals. My cousin's husband who is a well known priest in Antigua was in the Mount St. Johns for three weeks after encountering medical issues from a cut which is also related to his diabetic issues. They had to fly him up to get better care and once he came to NY they amputated his toe which basically might have saved his life.
So much money is spent on building extravagent hospitals but the care is so poor. TNT just built a 7hundred million TNT dollars hospital but people still die in the old hospital they have. The practitioners need better training abroad, it is 2012 and people still dying in hospitals, come on. Anyone with common sense would figure this young lady unfortunately died from internal bleeding.

People die in hospitals all the time...The problem here is that people are trying to infer that the young lady's death is the hospitals fault. CARIBARENA makes it its business to report every death that happens at MSJMC to make the place look bad... ergo waging war

The MSJMC building looks so "ordinary". Not the modern high tech architecture that one would expect for 100 million US dollars. I wonder how much of that money the politicians took?

The Antigua government cannot even execute a trivial task such as effectively manage the sanitation department in a small city like St. John's. No way in hell can this dysfunctional bunch of Antiguan politicians oversee the efficient management of MSJMC. This job should now be given to an international provider of contractual administrative healthcare management services or expect many more sudden deaths.

I have said it over and over again. The incompetent UPP/ALP politicians excelled only at fleecing the Treasury.

shame on you! how dare you play these games! this young woman is dead, gone! Her daughter will grow up without a mother! What about her brother**ers, her parents from whom she was taken? for all I care, Caribarena can wage as much war as they like, because the hospital dam well deserves it. and along comes you and your little peanut brain and say caribarena is waging war. What are you even trying to say? What does it EVEN MATTER in the light of this tragedy. Just put yourself in the shoes of the young woman, of her daughter, of her father or mother. but before you do that, go to the MSJMC and ask for a BRAIN TRANSPLANT, because it is clear you are in need of one. Shame on you!

My condolences to the family and I hope the community, family and friend will step in to help with raising child. but....... Why are we assuming that there was xxxxxnce on the part of MSJMC?? why the young lady died. Women die in child birtyh all the time and could be that the yound lady had some othe complication not related to the pregnancy. Should we wait for the appropriat details before we start casting judgement??

retain a competent malpractice attorney

#9 fnpsr » 2012-04-04 10:32

My condolences go out to the family of this unfortunate young lady. It seems to me that MSJMC has a problem in this area. I recall several stories here on Caribarena where young women had their babies delivered and were discharged only to return and die because the placenta was left inside the mothers. I would suspect that the same thing might have happened here. If this is the case, it is negligence on the part the doctors, nurses and the hospital.

The family, in seeking answers, should retain a competent malpractice attorney. Women in their twenties don’t die in this manner unless there is negligence.

I agree with the blogger who stated that the family should get and independent person, preferably a doctor, to witness the autopsy.

“Let’s fix the little things before we attempt to fix the big things.”

Really Salma? Is that the best that you can do? I wonder where you went to school or got your training in Public Relations? Your comments sure doesn't sound professional or authentic to me.
Quote:

As the PRO of the hospital, how can you admit to the media that you have no knowledge of what takes place in the facility for which you are its representative to the PUBLIC?

So what are you getting paid to do then? Because it seems to me that you are certainly INCOMPETENT to adequately fulfill that role.

Politicians only care about POWER n MONEY

#5 Bluddy Bloke » 2012-04-04 09:26

It is sad that the common person like me and you have to suffer in this country. Our system is designed so that the buck stops at the politician. In this case the politicians do not care as long as they have power and money in their pocket. Many things have happen at MSJC and our politicians who are the ultimate administrators have done nothing. This is because they get their health care overseas. It is time enough that we the people stand up and demand that we need a proper health care system in place. It is us who are in the kitchen who are feeling the heat.

#3 nitty gritty » 2012-04-04 07:55

Condolences go out to the family of Ms. Bright. It is also rather sad to know that the baby will now grow up not knowing her mother. There are too many negative reports coming out of MSJMC__ it somewhat paints a picture that the doctors/ nurses etc are not doing a proper job when there may be other contributing factors that might hinder them from maximising their fullest potentials

Everyone dam well know the police won't be doing no real investigation. If they do it will be the first time. Antigua lacks Justice and therefore will not grow socially. Young people do not have that kind of confidence in the ABRP. If the young lady is not related to Mr. Big stuff, the police will only pretend to investigate untill things cools off...then nothing

Just a little advise

#1 BEEF » 2012-04-04 06:10

Condolences to the family. I have some idea of what you must be feeling now. It might be to your advantage to have an independent person witness the post-mortem (and become involved generally) because the process will be a long one and it could be a costly one if there will be a challenge to M.S.J.M.C. Trust God1
