Antigua St John's - MP for St George Dr Jacqui Quinn-Leandro has urged the Potters community to use the upcoming Reunion 2011 to foster a deeper sense of civic pride.
"As we meet with villagers from far-flung states, I think we will be able to strengthen and deepen civic pride, and develop a sustained effort and see the value of keeping the village clean and beautiful," she said at the launch of the July 31 to August 1 activities.
Dr Quinn-Leandro also urged the community to take pride in their valuable human resource, noting the plethora of talent and skills that exist in the field of politics, entertainment, and sports.
The St George MP further urged the reunion committee to record the rich and textured oral history of the village. "If we document the oral history, we will get a deeper understanding of the village as it is now," she explained.
Also addressing the ceremony was former MP Sir Adolphus Freeland, who took the audience way back to when he was in active politics, and the contributions he made to the overall development of the community. He said he was very proud of the committee for organising such an event, which will also pay homage to the great works of a number of individuals within the village.
Former Rhode Scholar and villager, Karen-Mae Hill, told the gathering that amidst all the excitement and festivities to be held in the heart of the Carnival celebrations, they should take care to think of a number of important things.
“How can we build and maintain the Potters village that we want?" she asked. "Let us spend some time this summer to think of ways we can give back to the community - strengthen the churches, give to the elderly, help our children to follow the right path. If we do nothing for mankind, we serve no purpose on earth.”

Lady you got some nerves!
No one withing this administration who claim to have such "civic pride" has taken that pride and extended it to the people of the nation by answering the questions about the cell towers all over this small island. Six days and not one of these civic minded people have had the decency to address us....and you talk about CIVIC PRIDE!!!
