Taste of History to Feature Antigua

Chef-WalterOver 100 million potential tourists will see images of Antigua as the two-time Emmy® Award winning culinary show “A Taste of History®” prepares to debut here.

Amid one of the travel industry’s most challenging times, Chef Walter Staib was on island a few months ago to scout locations for his popular TV show to be filmed in Antigua in early July. The undertaking, sponsored by Sandals Resorts, will be featured on networks like the Travel Channel and PBS, exposing the island to millions of potential tourists.

According to Sandals Regional Director - Eastern Caribbean Jeremy Jones, the show is a wonderful avenue through which Antigua can highlight its culinary prowess and the beauty of its many attractions.

“This visibility is coming at a good time for the island when the government is working assiduously to service the island with adequate airlift. Once the show is aired and people see the island on television then the next question a potential tourist  will ask himself is; how do I get there,” he said.

Chef Staib has been visiting the island since 1992, and over the years fallen in love with its history, people, food, and beauty.  He said, “I thought it would be a fantastic idea to shoot an episode of the show here in Antigua because of its rich history. When I visited the various historic locations, I was intrigued by the breathtaking views at Shirley’s Heights and the authenticity of Betty’s Hope which gives us a glimpse of plantation life.  All of which still tell a fascinatingly unique story of the island’s history.”

“A Taste of History®” brings the 18th Century to life by examining the foods that America’s forefathers ate and by recreating the recipes they enjoyed.  While filming at these historic locations in St Lucia Chef Staib will also be recreating local dishes that tie into the history of the island.

Chef Staib is geared to return to St. Lucia in July to film and until then you can see the award winning Chef challenge Bobby Flay on Iron Chefs of America® on the Food Network®!

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock! This is what is referred to BBall as a "Full Court Press". "Marketing is Relationship Building". To this date very little advertising of Antigua, by the corporate sponsor of this event, has taken place. My colleagues have all been saddened by the paucity of ads for the Resort at **enson Bay. It could be argued that since there was only one facility on the Rock, advertising expenditure was proportional to the potential return given the number of resorts on the Bahamas, Jamaica & St.lucia. We didn't buy our argument given that the same pattern informed us with the aquisition of the second resort at Long Bay. That we are about to enter a new era in relationship building with this Colonial Privateer should not be sneezed at. The age old adage of Beware of The Greeks bearing Gifts should be taught to all of our youth. Here is the URL to a full translation http://www.munseys.com/diskfive/anver.pdf This "Just In Time". Many will fall al over this supporting undertaking not realizing that in the Grand Scheme, this is all part of the Strategic & Business Plan as the assault on our Patrimony continues unabated. Hence take the grease and enjoy.
