Over 100 million potential tourists will see images of Antigua as the two-time Emmy® Award winning culinary show “A Taste of History®” prepares to debut here.
Amid one of the travel industry’s most challenging times, Chef Walter Staib was on island a few months ago to scout locations for his popular TV show to be filmed in Antigua in early July. The undertaking, sponsored by Sandals Resorts, will be featured on networks like the Travel Channel and PBS, exposing the island to millions of potential tourists.
According to Sandals Regional Director - Eastern Caribbean Jeremy Jones, the show is a wonderful avenue through which Antigua can highlight its culinary prowess and the beauty of its many attractions.
“This visibility is coming at a good time for the island when the government is working assiduously to service the island with adequate airlift. Once the show is aired and people see the island on television then the next question a potential tourist will ask himself is; how do I get there,” he said.
Chef Staib has been visiting the island since 1992, and over the years fallen in love with its history, people, food, and beauty. He said, “I thought it would be a fantastic idea to shoot an episode of the show here in Antigua because of its rich history. When I visited the various historic locations, I was intrigued by the breathtaking views at Shirley’s Heights and the authenticity of Betty’s Hope which gives us a glimpse of plantation life. All of which still tell a fascinatingly unique story of the island’s history.”
