Yesterday my friend Bob and brother living here in the Fort Lauderdale area asked me to come with him to the Antigua Independence Happy Hour at the bread shop in North Miami.
As always all the beautiful people were there. President and bakershop owner Ellis was a great host as usual.
They played Short Shirt and Swallow’s music some of them I have not heard in a very long time. Later the DJ dropped the Garjeo Latumba like an earthquake in the city and we had a very pleasant evening.
I bumped into Cousin Patsy; have not seen her in about two years and she lost some weight and was looking fabulous.
We exchanged numbers and we hooked up this afternoon and I shared my secret for keeping the weight off.
The following is an original recipe I created. It is delicious, very low in calories and keeps the hunger away. I call it “Skye High”.
It won 2nd place in a cooking contest at Kaplan University last year.
1 large cabbage, shredded
2 broccoli spears, shredded
2 shredded carrots and/or tomatoes or avocados if you like
1 whole onion, chopped
1 each chopped bell pepper red, yellow and green
A bunch of cilantro chopped
1 garlic, chopped
2 tablespoons of garlic powder
Thyme to taste, or herbs you like to your taste
Salt to your taste
Basil to your taste
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
The juice of 2 lemons
Half of cup of apple cider vinegar
And my secret weapon, SUZIE’S HOT SAUCE.
Mix it all up, put it in the refrigerator to chill and in the middle of the night when you get hungry, grab a pinch.
It will give you that satisfying feeling you get when you are chewing with a zing and pucker that awakes your mouth and satisfies your hunger.
It can be stored for months. You can put fresh shrimps or any seafood in it.
I love it with raw fresh chopped conch. You can marinate meat or chicken and bake them in foil, or you can eat it along with a meal as a side salad.
A vegan can eat it with bread, add cheese or use it as a substitute for meat.
Try it ... enjoy ... bon appetit …

Duncina my duncy bat daughter would like to know, why is it, that you always preach self reliance, African Ancestry, away with 'massa! mentality but your official photograph for the Independence Recipe have you as an Akan King, wearing a $2000. armarni or some European massa style outfit, while the Akan Queen anPrincesses are dressed in African style outfits? Shouldn't he be practicing what he's preaching? At least dad, the Arabs do no such thing. When they celebrate, they dress in their full regalia...
