Antigua is about to come face-to-face with one of its youngest fashion designers, and some of the most elegant fashions designed and made here for 2010.

Hailing from Point, and only 18 years old, Ophia Benjamin is about to unleash some of her natural talent through her new line of clothing called Angel Star Designs. She will also be launching her agency, Higher Heel, which caters for shorter models.

Her launch and fashion show will be held at The Coast night club on June 12, starting at 9 pm and she promise that it will be a "jaw dropper".

Benjamin started out as a model with Ajeante fashions, but found her height wasn't ideal for modeling and she had to deal with negative comments and situations that led her to instead focus on designing clothing. Her first lessons came from Ajeante. Growing up around sewing, she had already started learning, but it was the designing aspect that she was hungry for.

She was also fortunate to have lessons from Calvin Southwell, who really helped boost her confidence and take her to another level in the game.

"I'm ready now," she said. "I've been doing a lot of fashion shows in the hotels here and in Dominica, and I'm ready to launch my own line. I have enough material."

Benjamin has a modern touch, and having only been designing on her own for just over a year, and never officially attending a school for design, nor having any formal training in sewing, she has a big heart, is very determined, and somehow just does it right.
