There is nothing worse than looking through your photo album at pictures where your face was shinier than your jewelry.
Last weekend, my sisters, myself, and our children went to do a photo shoot, and in between shots it dawned on me that much of the delay came from frequent stops to check the mirror to adjust something – ensuring that clothes or body parts were in the right place or making sure that somebody’s face was not looking as if they had taken a dive into a tub of cooking oil.
Oily skin could result from pregnancy, birth control pills, cosmetics, or what you eat. It could also be hereditary, or you could blame it on the hot or humid weather, or maybe even standing in front of a camera in a small photo studio with incandescent light bulbs. However, some important facts I have learned about avoiding or dealing with oily skin over the years are:
• Drinking the daily recommended amount of water helps your skin to have the right balance. I make a concerted effort to drink more than just eight glasses per day. Oily skin is a result of the excessive production of sebum, which leads to the clogging of your pores and eventually dead cells and pimples.
• Eat more fruits and vegetables, and avoid or eliminate from your diet those food that seemingly help to increase the production of oil in your skin.
• Do not sleep with make-up on your face, and before you actually apply the make-up use a light antiseptic oil to help reduce oil secretion.
• To properly dissolve excessive skin oils, use hot water when you wash your face.
• Once it has been established that you do suffer from oily skin, use only products that are suited specifically for your skin type.
